All is Not Well as Jennings Departs Tranmere for Scotland
By Deadly Submarine
July 1 2009
Motherwell have tonight confirmed the earlier rumours from today that Rovers midfielder Steven Jennings has indeed become the first signing of their new Manager Jim Gannon ending a year of uncertainty after Jenno played all season on a week-to-week contract.

Tranmere fans were dealt another blow tonight on the first day of pre-season training for the first team as midfielder Steven Jennings was confirmed as a Motherwell player for next season subject to clearance issues.

Motherwell appointed former Stockport County Manager Jim Gannon as their new Manager earlier in the week and Jenno becomes his first new signing after playing the whole of last season at Tranmere on a week-to-week contract.

Jennings is Now a Motherwell Player

The move comes as more of a blow as it came just 24 hours after John Barnes confirmed that Rovers were hopeful that Jennings would remain at the Club and that negotiations were a long way down the road.

As well as playing Scottish Premier League football at Motherwell, Jennings may also take part in the Europa League (formerly the UEFA Cup is Motherwell progress through the first round for which Jenno is ineligible).

Some fans will argue that Jenno is an even bigger loss than Antony Kay from the Rovers midfield and his departure leaves a huge hole to filled.

Total Tranmere would like to thank Jenno for his time at Tranmere and wish him all the best in Scotland.

good!!!

vastly over rated and thinks he is better than he actually is, people raved on about him last season but for me it was kay who carried the midfield,

we can now focus on trying to sign players who actually want to come and play for us, not beg those who dont to stay,

kay... who has also walked.

so before everyone got bitter an started saying kay was shite because he left us.. the players we couldn't afford to lose were - chorley, jenno, kay. maybe coyne?

what is the point in supporting this sh1te!

just wanna thank PJ for causing the disturbance in the squad an also probably costin us shotts. I'm sure he'll recoup his money with big names like barnes an maccateer when were sat in 24th with Sammy Aiston back at the club and beresford because no one decent will touch us over the age of 19

i am not bitter about anybody leaving, just the way jennings acted last year by not signing a contract until he realised nobody wanted him made me a bit mad,

and he would have done the same again this year had he not gone,

i think that we will struggle to attract decent players given our celebrity managers lack of experiance,

Jennings carried Kay, not the other way round, Yes Kay scored the goals but he never did any of the hard work that Jennings did, for me, Jenno's a bigger loss.

And who knows if he was on a week to week contract for the whole season, he may of signed till the end of the season at xmas for all we know.. lets not forget, our OS still thinks Ian Sharps (I think its him?) ain't left.

Fully agree Mikey and despite him not having a proper contract there were few players all season who looked more commited to the cause than Jenno.

He is a bigger loss than Kay in my own opinion but both are gone so it's no use looking back.

As for signings, there was an interesting post on another Forum today that stated that on this date last year, we had signed ONE player, two youngesters on professionals and had about 6 departures so what's different this year?

We've signed Allott and a few have left. Some thought McLaren was a huge loss last summer but it didn't prove to be the case.

The panic is almost laughable.

Gutted he's gone. The team is being torn apart. What was a good squad to build on for the future, with great potential, has been ripped to shreds. The club is in a mess.

European football against Llanelli eh?

I think you've got a really solid hard working midfielder who we all would have preferred to keep to be honest...... we're struggling to field a 7 a side team at the moment!

Regarding other comments re 'panicking' on the boards - I don't think we're panicking....... I think we're all feeling rather sad at club's lack of communication with the fans, and the gradual dismantling of a reasonable team which pulled together to over achieve last year - honestly... how many great games did we see? 2, 3...?

Johnson is not daft though - he's realised that Leicester walked the league with 6 loanees from premiership last year (4 of them from Liverpool). I reckon that summarises how his thought processes are moving, but unfortunatelyI don't see that as any robust way to progress a club - but what do I know Mr. Johnson - I just feed my hard earned cash through your turnstile.

Oh ye of little faith. Jennings was largely ineffective, when he played well, he was good, however, in my opinion, he was missing for a lot of matches. His decision to play on a match to match contract did not show any loyalty to the club. There wasn't exactly a rush for him, was there?
With regards to signings the Club will tell us when new players sign on the dotted line and not before. Let us wait and see.
Keep the faith. All you miserable lot predicting relegation or low down in the League, take a happy pill will you.

How are we meant to be happy at losing our 3 best players from last season, coupled with the possible loss of Coyne, and the prospect that Shotton WON'T return?

It is gonna be all doom and gloom and if dumb and dumber don't make some signings, then there's not gonna be enthusiasm about the coming season is there?

We've got TWELVE players in contract, 3 of which are MacAuley, Fraughen and Ash Taylor - whilst I've nothing against those 3, they've about 10 minutes of first team football between them, it's not like we can all of a sudden rely on them to play 46 games next season.

They have to start somewhere I suppose though the youngsters but they would be going in at the deep end for sure!

Barnes said he's looking at a squad of 18 to 20 and I've heard first hand just how hard they've been working in the last two weeks.

I'm confident that things will come good whether people choose to believe it or not lol.

Working hard on a beach in the med? Yeah sounds like he's working really hard. With the way the worlds going, players will take offers as soon as they recieve them, if Barnes is on a beach somewhere, the player ain't gonna hang around until he gets back if he has other offers.

People moan about Jenno not being committed by signing a contract, what about Barnes being on holiday when he could of been talking to targets? Yes this time last year we'd only signed 1 player but I'd bet my house he'd of talked to some of the players we then went on to sign, and tried other targets, this time last year, Moore was probably 5/6 steps ahead of Barnes

Barnes and McAteer think they can challenge for the play-offs by loaning Liverpool players, it doesn't work unless you have your own players who want to play for the club, the players they'd look up to such as Coyne, Chorley and Jenno who've departed.

And also you have no clue how it'll turn out, no one knows who we're gonna sign, when we're gonna sign them, and how good they are, but lets be honest, right now, we won't be anywhere near the top half next season.

I for one am glad he has gone. He has finally got when he want which is a move. We all know he would have jumped ship at the first oppertunity last year.

Yes we benifitted as he played out of his skin to try and impress the bigger clubs, but he had no commitment to the team that made it.

Go bye jenno, you won't be missed by me!

C'mon Rovers!!

You have no clue what they've been up to either and are just guessing as everyone else is!

You and me and some others agreed for three years that Ronnie needed more time and yet people jumped on these two before they even came.

Bit of a contradiction really!

People backed Ronnie because he has a pedigree in the transfer market, the ability to bring in very good players - players like Chorley and Kay.

Right now, we have a manager who as far as we know know's very little about the league and has a squad where only three players have played for the club for more than one season - Goodison, Taylor and Curran.

We've lost our three best players from last season; Chorley, Jennings and Kay, we've lost two seasoned pros in Achto and Greenacre, and we've released four others.

Our squad is threadbare and it's getting worse and worse. Still we don't know whether Barnett, Coyne or Moore will sign.

All we know is that we are seriously going to be struggling to field two teams against Lairds and Heswall.

All the fans favourite players have gone - and I include Sonko in that - six players who the fans loved and many of whom loved the fans back.

All we've got left is Gareth Edds!!!

With one move, Johnson has lost a good manager in Ronnie Moore and this has produced consequences that, at the moment, are much, much worse than anybody could have bargained for.

Maybe because Ronnie has always been around the lower leagues, knows the players better than Barnes? We also had more than 12 pro's last year.

The whole debate was started by Ozric telling miserable people to take a happy pill, I was just pointing out that there ain't much to be positive about.

Lets stop being led around by the nose like some media crazed lemmings.
the fact that there are so many media outlets pumping out information to justify their existence, creates pressure and 'panic'.
Lets also stop being nieve when we think the club 'dont talk to the fans'. Should they phone everyone up before any prospective signings are considered for our opinion?
Patience is a virtue remember. Lets try and be optimistic instead of the taking the easy way out and criticising.

But what is there to be optomistic about, when we need about 8 new players (plus loans) and we have a manager, who seemingly knows not a lot about the lower leagues. (As Matt's post above)

I may be wrong in the end but I'm being positive - something that certain people on this thread always accuse me if not beingsmiling smiley

You can't put a time on it, just see how it goes, in Ronnie's first two years, we were hovering outside the play-offs, but needed quite a few more points, and thats why I always felt he needed a little longer, we knew he had a good eye in the transfer market, so could more than likely take us the next step (I don't think he could of got us in play-offs this season, I think Chorley, Kay and maybe Coyne would of left regardless)

For all the @#$%& Barnes is getting, one thing cannot be denied. He has increased the clubs profile and has irrifutible (sp?) links with Liverpool. Now i know we can't rely on these signings, but say we can take 3 LFC players on season long loans, then thats a start. However, John Barnes being the high profile personality he is, maybe be able to sway some (possibly the more naive) players to come to us. I mean it may be a big deal for some U23 players to gain the trophy of playing under Barnes. Where as i am completely and utterly baffled at Ronnies departure and the debarcle (again sp?) that has followed. I will reserve all judgement on dumb and bumber/ bevis and butthead (or whatever the latest less than capable duo they are named after) until the 8th of august, and possibly til the 1st september.

Who knows what deals are in place. Just because JB isn't at the club, doesn't mean the club stops. I'm sure Dave Phillpots and Jason McAteer have been working their socks off setting up potential signings. Ian Moore is a good start and i'm sure, sooner rather than later we'll start to see more players following suit. If Coyne and Barnett sign tomorrow then our outlook on next season will become completely different.
