Tranmere cruised to a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Sunday as Aaron Cresswell scored his first Rovers goal and Ian Moore added a second after the break.

The same eleven players started the game that had done so at Brighton a week before so the team looked like this....

Coyne

Edds Chorley Goodison Cresswell

Sonko Kay Jennings Barnett

Savage Moore

The first chance of the game came when Gareth Edds headed over from a Charlie Barnett corner before Cresswell then drove just wide from 30 yards.

Cresswell blasted a free kick straight at the keeper shortly afterwards whilst top scorer Ricky Lambert sliced wide for the visitors. The opening was quite low key with the ball spending a lot of time in the middle of the field where Sonko and Jennings battled well.

The next Rovers attack ended in controversy as Ben Chorley's hoof was met by Ian Moore whose attempted flick over the defender was handled clearly in the area and the referee blew his whistle.

With everyone waiting for him to point to the penalty spot, after speaking to his assistant he controversially gave a free kick instead despite loud protests from players and fans alike.

It mattered not however as Aaron Cresswell blasted goalwards and with the help of a deflection found the net for his first Rovers goal.

Lambert headed over with the last chance of the half as Rovers went into the changing rooms in control of the game.

Half Time: Tranmere Rovers 1 - 0 Bristol Rovers

Six minutes into the second half, Eddy Sonko was claiming a penalty as he appeared to be body checked by the defender but again the appeals were in vain.   Savage also claimed a penalty shortly afterwards and then blasted just wide.

Ian Moore ran through the defence but his cut-back was just behind Savage and it was cleared.  Bristol substitute Craig Disley tried to con the referee as he took a dive over Ian Goodison, but the referee was having none of it and booked him for simulation.

Rovers doubled their lead on 63 minutes when Barnett ran for 40 yards before squaring for Ian Moore to slide in the second and make the game safe.

Sonko then battled hard to get a chance on goal but should have done better when he blazed over from close range whilst Lambert drilled a low free kick goalwards which was well kept out by Coyne who even caught the rebound header from Kuffour.

Craig Curran then replaced Ian Moore late on as Rovers comfortably held on to this routine win and moved to within a point of the play offs.

Full Time: Tranmere Rovers 2 - 0 Bristol Rovers

Charlie Barnett

Everyone had effective games, but I feel Charlie was always positive going forward and was a threat.  He did well to set up Ian Moore for the second goal.
