As well as being busy off the field Sunderland have also been busy on it having visited North America for a pre-season workout.

The Black Cats have had a mixed pre-season - though most would say fitness is the focus - winning 2 and losing 2 games.

Sunderland beat Darlington 1883 by 4 goals to 2 after going two goals down, the comeback including a Giaccherini double, the other goals coming from Danny Graham and Connor Wickham.

Sunderland then made the journey to North America to face Sacramento Republic, Club de Futbol Pachuca and Toronto FC.

Sacramento Republic, already well into their domestic season ran out 1-0 winners and Club de Futbol Pachuca also defeated Sundlerand by 3 goals to 1.

Sunderland found some form when facing old boy Jozy Altidore and his new team Toronto FC, the Altidore deal saw Jermain Defoe coming to the north east and it was Defoe who scored twice to give Sunderland the win over his former team.

Sunderland have 1 more game to play this pre-season when they travel to Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday for a 19:45 kick off.
