match preview: Manchester United

By The Black Cats
September 30 2010

Manchester United will be the Black Cats' opponents at the Sunderland Stadium of Light this weekend. Sunderland have taken 5 points from Manchester City(3), Arsenal(1) and Liverpool(1) and will be hoping to claim yet another big 4 scalp on Saturday.

In all fairness Sunderland could easily have had the maximum of 9 points from those 3 games had luck and refereeing decisions not gone against Steve Bruce's side.

Sunderland are high on confidence after their recent league results while Man Utd aren't firing on all cylinders just yet and only limped to a 1-0 win in the dying seconds over Villareal last night.

United will be without Wayne Rooney who is out with an ankle injury as well as Paul Scholes meaning that it certainly seems like a very good time, if there every is one, to play Sir Alex Ferguson's men.

Sunderland will be without Danny Welbeck as he is on loan on Wearside from Manchester United and is not allowed to play against his parent club while Anton Ferdinand, Kieran Richardson, David Meyler and Fraizer Campbell are all suffering with injuries. Craig Gordon is now fit after a fractured arm.

Sunderland Could line up like this:

GK: Simon Mignolet
LB: Phil Bardsley
CB: Michael Turner
CB: Titus Bramble
RB: Nedum Onuoha
LW: Steed Malbranque
CM: Cristian Riveros
CM: Lee Cattermole
CM: Jordan Henderson
RW: Ahmed Elmohamady
ST: Darren Bent

Re: match preview Manchester United
Richardson and Mensah (who I forgot to mention in the story due to the fact he's barely played) are out for definite.

Ferdinand is back in training and therefore available to play.
