Sunderland haven't won in the last three games and badly need to regain some form - let's just hope the away form hasn't been brought home with them.
Portsmouth are currently bottom of the table although they eaned a 2-0 win over Burnley last weekend.
"It's never going to be easy because Portsmouth are a good attacking team despite having a few problems this year," he said."They are a Premier League outfit and one thing my experience of this level has taught me is that nothing can be taken for granted.
"As far as I'm concerned it's our biggest game of the season.
"We've
put ourselves under a bit of pressure with two straight defeats so we
have to make sure we hit our form very early in the game."
Pompey manager Avram Grant took over at Fratton Park recently after Paul Hart was sacked - a decision Bruce felt was harsh.
"I don't know a lot about Avram but obviously he's a football person who's been in the game a long time.
"I'm very disappointed for Paul Hart I have to say, but I wish Avram all the best of course, after Saturday."
Working harder
"I believe teams mirror their managers," he said. "One thing I wasn't blessed with was great ability, but I worked hard for my team-mates.
"That helped me to get to the top of my profession and that just goes to show what can be achieved with desire.
"I want my teams to mirror that if possible and there's been performances when we've done that.
"Take West Ham, where we were down to 10 men at 2-0 down and showed unbelievable desire to get back into the game."
He added: "We have to change mentally away from home and that's something we're looking at in terms of personnel if I keep getting the same repeated performances."
