| Returning to Stoke for £2m on deadline day 2008/9 and now at the club for the 2nd time in his career, resident left back Danny Higginbotham. The Manchesck ter born left bastarted his footballing career with current Premier League champions Manchester United where he made 7 appearances. Higginbotham would leave Old Trafford for Derby County in search of first football, where he spent 3 seasons prior to there relegation from the league. February 2003, and Danny signed a £1.5m move to Southampton and reached the 2002/03 FA Cup final. As with Derby County, Southampton where relegated from the Premier League during Higginbotham's tenure and in 2005 he refused to sign a new deal and was subsiquently transfer listed. August 2006 would see Danny completed a £225,000 move to the Britannia Stadium and by January 2007 he became the club captain following the departure of Michael Duberry. In his quest for Premier League football, Danny Higginbotham handed in his 2nd transfer request and moved to Sunderland. After one season at the Stadium of Light Higginbotham returned to the Britannia Stadium. Following his £2.5m return, Danny became the first choice left back at the club and played 28 fixtures as Stoke survived their first season in the Premier League. The 2009/10 season saw Danny Higginbotham lose his place in the side to Danny Collins, before getting his chance and gaining a recall which he held onto, until his recent injury. In October last year, Danny signed a further extension to his contract, now keeping him at the club until 2013. October 24th 2010 suitable against his local side and first club, Manchester United Higginbotham played his 200th Premier League fixture. Higginbotham has made it no secret he wants to finish his career at Stoke, however in the recent League game with Chelsea he suffered a severe injury would see him miss the 2010 FA Cup Final. Danny had sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury ruling him out for six months. |
