Stoke City: Worst XI of the decade

Britannia Stadium
By James Knowles
January 7 2010
People have recently been looking at the best players of the last decade, so we thought we would take an alternative look at the 'noughties'.

Russell Hoult- Perhaps a little bit harsh onsomeone who only played twice, but we have been pretty blessed with goalkeeping talent over the last ten years. Hoult's debut at Rochdale ended in a shock League Cup defeat, while he got sent off on his league debut at Plymouth. The idea of his signing was to push Steve Simonsen for the number one spot. It didn't work.

David Rowson- Signed on a free from Aberdeen, Rowson was well and truly out of his depth in whatrever position he played. It wasn't long before he returned north of the border.

Paul Williams- After a cracking debut at Walsall, Willo went rapidly downhill. The size of his shorts seemed to get bigger every week before he completely disappeared from the first team squad due to injury and lack of ability.

Ibrahima Sonko- One season was more than enough to decide that Sonko is not good enough. His constant hoofing and terribly timed tackles cost Stoke numerous goals last year. The solution? Ship him off to Hull!

Marlon Broomes- Signed in a swap deal for Lewis Neal, Broomes slotted in at an unnatural left back position for an entire campaign. He wasn't good enough and was found out on more than one occasion.

Toddy Gudjonsson- The signing that shocked the club. Signed by the board without Tony Pulis' saying, Toddy barely got a look in. However, when he did get his chance he proved why directors should leave football matters to the manager.

Anthony Pulis- Never good enough to hold down a Championship place, but stayed at the club due to his father. Eventually, Southampton were stupid enough to take him off our hands and he is yet to make an appearance for the Saints.

David Brammer- Despite a couple of wonder goals, Brammer was absolutely dreadful. He always seemed unfit and could barely string a pass together. He ended up slipping down the divisions before being released by Port Vale in the summer.

Martin Kolar- Described as the new Peter Hoekstra, Kolar quickly let us down. One good display against Norwich was not enough and he soon lost his place in the side before seeing his loan spell terminated by the club.

Vincent Pericard- Lazy is probably the best word that sums Pericard up. He liked falling on his backside and somehow played in the Premier League for us. Make no mistake though, Vince was absolutely dreadful in a Stoke shirt.

Lee Mills-He scored a couple of crucial goals, but Mills was a dreadful player. He looked as though he had never kicked a ball in his life. It was a pleasant day when he left us. His next club? The mighty Telford. It says alot about his ability.

We'd like to hear your contenders for the Worst XI side. There have been plenty of applicants!!
