SFL propose League reconstruction for 2015-16

The Scottish Football League have put forward a proposal for League reconstruction which will be put to their members on Wednesday.

The proposal being put forward is for a top league of 16, a second tier of 10 and then a bottom third tier of 18 teams. The third division will feature colts teams from Celtic and Rangers.

It’s a proposal that has its merits, I have been a long term supporter of a top league of 16. Although I am not sure how the missing fixtures will be replaced, will we see a return to the League Cup sections at the start of the season?

At least it will stop us putting up with playing the same teams four times a season, although not in the second tier. This all seems a bit strange.

I am also unsure of the value of the colt teams in the bottom tier, and why there wouldn’t be an invitation to Motherwell,Kilmarnock, Hibs or Hearts etc etc. This seems a bit exclusive, Celtic already have the Next Gen series to develop their young talent.

There is also no mention of whether there will be relegation from the SFL and promotion from any form of non League pyramid.

Hopefully this is just a starting point, an acceptance for change being realised but there will be some degree of consultation with the SPL clubs and fans at all levels.

Why not either 4 more colt teams or just bring in 4 teams from the non league and have 3 divs of 16. Seems strange to go with 16, 10 & 18.
