Holdsworth finally seals transfer

Deano: Folk hero

December 31 2002
Bolton Wanderers record signing Dean Holdsworth has finally completed his move to First Division Coventry City after more than five years at the Reebok Stadium.

Former Wimbledon striker Holdsworth was signed by then Wanderers manager Colin Todd for a club record £3.5million in October of 1997. However, Holdsworth's first season at the Reebok wasn't exactly a happy one as he suffered problems off the field as well as on it, Holdsworth only scoring one goal as Bolton were relegated back to the First Division on the final day of the season.

Holdsworth however proved to be much more prolific in the First Division and got into double figures in every one of Bolton's three seasons in the First Division.

Dean's twin brother David had a short lived spell at the Reebok earlier this season but David left after only a month and now Dean has followed him out of the Reebok Stadium exit door.

Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce will be glad to have rid Holdsworth's hefty wage packet from the Reebok wage bill as he looks to free up some funds to sign a new striker and defender once the January transfer window opens.

Holdsworth has signed at Highfield Road until the end of the season on a free transfer.
