Stranraer's promotion drive faltered at the hands to fourth place Peterhead, despite having the majority of the play.
The Blues started the match well at full power and in the third minute found themselves in a scoring opportunity. Stephen Swift crossed the ball into the box and McGuinness cleared the ball only as far as Michael Moore. Moore's resulting header lacked power and was easily saved by Paul Mathers.
Two minutes later David Graham shot wide after gathering a Swift cross, while the next move by the Blues a minute later saw a Kevin Finlayson solo effort being saved by an on-form Mathers.
Michael Moore had a great chance to open the scoring in the 20th minute when David Graham set him up from a great solo run through the centre of the midfield. With only the keeper to beat Moore shot wide.
In the 28th minute Stranraer appeared to have taken the lead through a Swift goal from a Lee Sharp cross, but the goal was ruled offside.
Against the run of play Peterhead had their first serious foray at goal when Andy Roddie's free-kick found Mark Perry. However, Perry's headed the ball straight towards McCondichie.
The Blues finally opened the scoring in the 34th minute when a poor clearance of a Stephen Swift cross forced David Graham to turn quickly and fire the ball into the Peterhead goal.
Graham almost added a second goal two minutes later when his shot into a packed box from only eight yards out when inches wide.
Stranraer came out at half-time looking to build upon their 1-0 lead, and after only three minutes a good link up between Finlayson and Graham almost paid dividends. Graham's shot lacked power and the visitor's 'keeper made an easy save.
Disaster struck in the 50th minute when Peterhead, against the run of play, scored an equalizer. Andy Roddie crossed the ball deep into the Stranraer box and it appeared to be going over the bar. Andy McCondichie thought the ball would go over, but he was surprised to see the ball hit the cross-bar and bounce to the feet of the unmarked Scott Robertson. Robertson made no mistake from only one yard out.
Peterhead seemed to contain a shocked Stranraer side until the 67th minute, when a Lee Sharp corner connected with Stephen Swift and the tall midfielder's header inched over the bar.
Marksman Michael Moore was the next person to miss a guilt-edge goal attempt when David Graham crossed the ball to him from the edge of the six yard box. Moore then shot the ball wide from only four yards out!
Paul Mathers saved the Blue Toon in the 74th minute when Kevin Finlayson broke through and with only the 'keeper to beat, but was thwarted with a great save.
Stranraer's last attacked at goal came in the 83rd minute when Stephen Swift darted into the box and forced Mathers to parry the ball clear.
In the last minute Martin Bavidge was book for a foul on Michael Moore.
Man of the Match- David Graham. The forward caused lots of problems for the Peterhead defence and was unlucky not to have scored more.
Overall Summary- Frustrating. Stranraer had numerous chances at goal and only scored a single goal, whereas Peterhead had once chance and converted it.
