Stranraer failed to produce the form which places them second in the Third Division, and as a result now exit the Scottish Cup at the hands of Second Division highflyers Hamilton.
Hamilton started the match at a faster pace then the Blues and were rewarded with a good attempt at goal after only three minutes. Dexi Wingate fouled Brian McPhee and Andrew Arbuckle stepped up to take the free-kick. The shot was powerful, but it was hit straight at McCondichie.
A minute later Alan Jenkins was booked for a weak challenge on a Hamilton midfielder.
Hamilton continued the attack in the 6th minute when a pile-driver of a shot from the edge of the box by Corcoran narrowly went wide of the upright
McCondichie was in action again in the 16th minute when Dexi Wingate brought down Jose Quitongo at the edge of the box. Carrigan again took the free-kick and the Blues 'keeper did well to get his finger tips to the ball to force it around the post for a corner.
Stranraer finally found their form in the last three minutes of the match when Lee Sharp and Stephen Swift almost opened the scoring. In the 43rd minute Sharp took an opportunistic shot at the edge of the box, but McEwan managed to tip the ball wide of the goal post. The resulting corner saw Stephen Swift's shot at goal being cleared off the line.
In the closing minute Swift was again challenging the Hamilton goal, but this time his shot went over the crossbar.
The Blues continued to play second fiddle to Hamilton in the second half, and other than a few promising moves, could not break the Accies down. It was clear from the outset that a single goal would be enough to advance to the third round of the cup.
In the 60th minute Michael Moore broke into the the Accies' box with only the 'keeper to beat, but managed to knock the ball wide of the right hand post.
Brian Carrigan was again threatening from a free-kick in the 74th minute, but the ball skimmed past McCondichie's left hand post with the 'keeper beaten.
The match winning goal final came in the 75th minute when Jose Quitongo netted after a great one-man effort. The short African player gathered the ball just inside the Stranraer half and weeved past a couple of Stranraer defenders and midfielders to take the ball to the edge of the box where he slotted the ball past a diving McCondichie.
Moore almost leveled the match five minutes later after Graham crossed the ball to Jenkins who then fed Moore. The Stranraer hitman's effort inched wide of the post.
The final attack of the match took place in the final minute of regulation time when a Stevie Aitken free-kick found Stephen Swift. McEwan tipped the effort wide for a corner.
Man of the Match - Andrew McCondichie would get my not for some great reaction saves, but the Tennants man of the match went to Stevie Aitken.
Overall Summary - ZZZzzzz. Let's hope the Blues can keep up the pressure in the league, and put this defeat behind them.
