Stranraer 1 Raith Rovers 0

Victory at last for the Blues at the expense of the league leaders. Great result for Stranraer but with the other teams just above us winning as well relegation might go down to the last day of the season.

STRANRAER

1-0

RAITH ROVERS

Finlayson (64 min)
0-0

You couldn't tell the difference between promotion and relegation in this match as both teams struggled due to their poor recent form and a strong wind at Stair Park. The best chance of the half fell to Raith's Nanou when he played a one - two with Andy Smith but his left foot shot was well saved by Willie McCulloch.

In the second half Raith started to play the better football and nearly went ahead soon after the restart with Antonio Calderon free-kick was very well saved by Willie McCulloch following Jenkins mistimed tackle. Raith produced more chances with Calderon again playing a through ball to No.9 Andy Smith, which was tipped brilliantly over the bar by McCulloch.

Stranraer's opening goal came in the 64th minute and was only their second effort of the match so far. It started when veteran Harry Curran robbed Mathieson of the ball and crossed for Finlayson who had all the time in the world to stroke the ball into the corner of the net.

Raith piled on the pressure following the goal with Dene Shields acrobatic kick clawed out by McCulloch. Then Gonzalez Raith's goalie started to do some keepie uppies and Finlayson raced up to challenge and won the ball but the goalie recovered. Finlayson had another opportunity to finish off the game when Fraser Wright went on a strong run and laid on a perfect pass but from six yards the angle was a bit tight and the keeper made a comfortable save.

STRANRAER M.O.M. - Kevin Finlayson or Willie McCulloch Finlayson was a constants threat and Willie McCulloch made some crucial saves.

OVERALL SUMMARY- Good dogged performance which produced a great result but all the other teams threatened with relegation won so the fight to avoid the drop goes on. Harty wasn't even there. He has fallen out with the manager. On this result do we need him?
