Berwick proved to be too strong in the "Borders" derby at Shieldfield Park. The home team took all three points thanks to a 80th minute strike by Darren Smith. Stranraer are now four points behind Berwick in the league.

Stranraer slipped four points behind Berwick in the league, albeit with a game in hand, after a hard fought match at Shieldfield Park which saw the home side take the honours.

The match was a scrappy affair and it only really came alive late in the second half, when first Gary Wood and Darren Smith had shots at goal.

Wood's attempt was a reflex shot from the edge of the box which John Hillcoat did very will to stop.

With only ten minutes of the match remaining, forward Darren Smith broke clear down the left wing, before cutting inside and hammering a powerful shot. The ball struck the post and recoched into the net.

In stoppage time the Blues pushed hard, and it was during this frantic part of the match that Berwick's defensive maestro Alan Neill was injured and had to be taken off.
