The last time the teams met Stranraer recorded a hard-fought 3-4 victory at Shielfield Park, which saw them move of the bottom of the table. How times have changed. In this match the Blues made easy work of Berwick, but could not score than one goal. The win also saw Stranraer move clear into second place in the league.
The Blues should have taken the lead in the first minute through Michael Moore. The forward had only the Berwick 'keeper Ross Godfrey to beat, but he hesitated and the 'keeper pounced at the ball..
In the 21st minute Moore made up for the poor started when he scored what proved to be the winner. A Stevie Aitken corner when deep into the Berwick box, where Moore rose high to head the ball into the net.
The only threat the visitors posed in the first half was by Darren Smith, but John Hillcoat continued his fantastic form with a good save.
Stranraer continued their domination in the second half. However, despite two great chances by Paul Kerr early in the half the Blues could consolidate their lead.
The visitors finally can to their senses in the final half-hour
OVERALL SUMMARY- Maybe not the greatest of victories, but a victory none the less which takes Stranraer back to the top of the table (with the same points as Raith Rovers). Top by Christmas? - maybe!
Man of the Match: Michael Moore. Despite the opening minute miss, the forward made amends with a well taken goal.
