A Sandy Hodge strike in the 61st minute was enough to see Stranraer go top of the Second Division with their sixth consecutive league win.

Stranraer recorded their sixth win in a row, over a battling Cowdenbeath side, to see themselves sit proudly on top of the Second Division. Although the Blues never looked like losing the game, they had to wait until the 61st minute before they scored the all important goal.

The Blues fielded essentially the same team which had won on five previous occasions, while Cowdenbeath were without the services of Kenny Munro, John Elliot and Lee Dair. However, the home side had Willie Miller and Iain Mauchlen back in their lineup.

Neither team had a good opportunity in the first half, with both defenses easily controlling the pressure of the opposition. The best chance for Stranraer fell to Paul Kerr, but is shot was stopped by O'Connor, while Keith Wilson had a header cleared of the line by David Farrell.

In the 57th minute Kevin Finlayson was lucky not to get a red card when he appear to elbow Craig Winters. Mr. Brines seemed confused as to what had happened, as he booked both Finlayson and Winters.

Hodge - first goal of the season

Stranraer finally broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, while Cowdenbeath prepared to make a double substitution. Ian Harty played a fantastic through-ball to Sandy Hodge, and the wing-forward easily slipped the ball past the advancing Gary O'Connor.

The Blues continued to take the game to the Blue Brazil, with the Stranraer defense looking particularly strong, especially Farrell, Wingate and Wright.

In the last seven minutes Cowdenbeath mounted an all-out effort and Dair, Elliot and Wilson harried the Stranraer defense mercilessly. In the final minutes John Hillcoat pulled-off three net-bound balls, while John Elliot went down heavily, in the box, with many of the home supporters howling for a penalty.

STRANRAER MOM: Sandy Hodge, got the goal he deserved and causing numerous problem for the Cowdenbeath midfield

OVERALL SUMMARY- the Blues didn't looking like losing this match, but they left it late to get the goal they needed. The team is looking fit and confident, and it looks like the backroom staff are knitting well with the players - the question is can it continue against Raith Rovers next week?.
