Solid win

Stranraer recorded their fourth straight win to knock league leaders Dumbarton off the top of the table, despite Michael Moore being red-carded in the 38th. Paul Kerr scored what proved to be the winner in the 43rd minute. In an ill tempered match, the visitors had seven players booked.

The game started of slowly, as both teams were finding there footing, on a sunny, but fine day. Could Stranraer stretch there winning streak to four matches, or would Dumbarton hold on to first place?

The first real chance fell to Stranraer. A Stevie Aitken free-kick was swung into the box and it was met by Michael Moore, but his header was well off target.

Minutes later another Aitken corner swung deep into the box, which Dumbarton 'keeper Stephen Grindaly came to collect, but missed. Ian Harty was on hand to take the shot, but it was blocked by a wall of black and yellow shirts. The ball was then cleared to safety

Dumbarton swung into attack, with a patient built-up, which resulted in a shot from local lad Gary McCutcheon, but was blocked by another native, Allan Jenkins.

In the 38th minute the match took a cruel twist for the Blues when Michael Moore was harshly sent-off from what looked like a fair challenge for the ball with Mark Crilly. The referee, Mr. Smith, made no hesitation in reaching for the red card. Moore's chance of staying on the pitch wasn't helped by the reaction of Crilly.

Stranraer then upped the tempo for the short period before half time. Harty's neat through pass, let in Paul Kerr who finished in style from 14 yards out.

Dumbarton had their first real chance of the game right at the start of the second half. McCutcheon's shot was easily parried away by Hillcoat in the Stranraer goals. Notably, this was Hillcoat's only save in the second half.

Dumbarton keeper nearly gave Stranraer a second goal after 55 minutes when a Kevin Finlayson cross was nearly knocked into the net by Grindaly.

Stranraer were awarded a free-kick outside the penalty area, and it was ideally place for Sharp to have a go at goal. The midfielder did well placing the shot, but it was saved nicely by an alert keeper.

Allan Jenkins was having an excellent game and almost score a goal when he connected well from a deep cross. His header was tipped to safety over the Son's crossbar by Grindlay.

The game ended on a very sour note. Neil Scally dived in the penalty area in the 90 minute. The referee booked him, but forgot to show him the red card because he had been booked earlier in the game. His assistant pointed this out to him and Scally eventually walked. This summed up the referee. For all the people that were at the game they will know how poor our referee was today.

OVERALL SUMMARY- It was a win, but it wasn't planned like that. After Moore had been sent-off Stranraer took the game to Dumbarton and due to this they found themselves one goal up at half time. The atmosphere at the game was intense, especially sitting behind the directors box.

STRANRAER MOM- Lee Sharp, a very hard choice this week, but well dissevered. His work rate was 110%. His linkup play with the strikers was quality. His ability to defend when necessary was excellent, plus his crosses in to the box were of a high order.
