Someone once said football's a game of 2 halves, with the U's fielding two totally different sides in each half maybe they are taking this saying too seriously? The first half saw a line-up of familiar faces, with most of the United first team on show, plus trialist Scott Eustace.
The game got off to an exciting start, with Shaun Marshall getting upto his old tricks again. With what should of been a routine clearance, Shaun sliced the ball to put it out for a corner! What a way to build your confidence for the season ey Shaun? The U's struggled to clear the corner but eventually it was Armand One that drilled the ball upfield to prevent any danger.
The first goal of the game came from a City penalty. Ex-U Matt Clements burst into the box only to make a very Inzaghi like tumble to the floor. Stev Angus was was deemed to be the culprit and the referee pointed to the spot. Another Ex-U Adie Hayes stepped up, making no mistake by planting the ball in the top-right hand corner. 1 - 0 City.
Within minutes United drew level through Tom Youngs. A ball from Luke Guttridge resulted in a one-on-one between City keeper Davies and Youngs, with Tom Youngs cooly passing him to put the ball into an empty net. City 1 - 1 United.
The rest of the first half didn't live upto the eventful first 20 minutes, with both teams staying resolute at the back.
The second half saw a collection of trialists and youth/reserve players lining up for the U's. A very attack minded half from both teams suprisingly only produced the one goal - a close range effort from another former-U Leon Gutzmore.
Colin Alcide was impressive as ever, playing at centre back alongside Graham Rush. Alcide managed to lose his marker every time City pushed forward, and made an even bigger laughing stock of himself by falling over just outside Uniteds penalty box. How did this man make it into professional football? Thanks John Beck...
Slightly more promising was trialist keeper Martin Brennan. Only of small stature but impressed throughout the half with great command of his area and excellent handling. Omer Riza also chipped in with an impressive display.
Next up against the U's is Steve Fallon's Histon. Match preview to follow later.
