Latest News:

Stephenson is new Hartlepool United Youth Coach

Paul Stephenson has been appointed Youth Team coach in succession to Martin Scott; and Hartlepool United's senior side beat TOP Oss 6-0 in their friendly in Holland. Apologies if this is brief - I'm currently in the tropical Lake District!

But there's been some news from Pools this morning (Thursday) about the role of Youth Coach. Rumours had circulated that Peter Berdsley was to get the job; instead it's his former colleague at Pools and Newcastle Paul Stephenson who's got the role.

Stepho has been involved in the Academy at Pools since announcing his decision to retire earlier this season, and travelled with the party to play in the Dallas Cup.

And on the first game of the Dutch tour, a strong Pools Lineup beat TOP Oss (should that be Bottom Donkey?) 6-0, with Eifion bagging a hat trick, and Henderson, Richardson and Clarke hitting the net. This was apparently tougher opposition than last year, but the Friday game against Heerenveen - a genuine top side - should provide more of a workout.

One interesting selection was young John Brackstone; the left-sided defender was a regular for the reserves last season, and it may be that Cooper sees him as ready to challenge Mark Robinson or a first team place.
