Pools rumour mill in full swing

Dimi - back soon
By Clarence Rode
May 5 2009
The Hartlepool United rumour mill has rarely started so early in a close-season and has never been as busy as it is right now as fans look forward to a team which frustrated them for most of the 2008-09 season being rebuilt for a fresh League One challenge next season. Adam Boyd has signed and Dimi Konstantopoulos is expected to sign.

However, predictions that Bob Newton, Paul Baker, Joe Allon and Andy Saville are on the way back to partner Boyd in attack are unfounded.
But the Boyd and Dimi deals have suggested that the powers that be at the Vic have at last realised that the current squad isn’t good enough and that fans need to be given good news if season tickets are to be sold.
A year ago, our guess is that somebody, somewhere at the Vic decided that not only was the squad good enough to do well, but that fans should be treated like mushrooms – fed on a diet of sh*t and kept in the dark.
Those theories have been proved wrong.
Adam Boyd (front)Former fans favourite Boyd (right) was linked with a move back to his home town club long before the deal that brought him from Leyton Orient was announced last weekend, and Dimi is expected to sign on a season-long loan in the next few days.
After that, you pay your money and you take your choice as a string of names are linked with the club.
In addition to that, Pools need to finally decide which of the players they have on their books now are staying and which are going to be shown the door as Chris Turner’s rebuilding programme gathers pace.
Fans are having fun adding the players they feel should stay to the ones they feel should be signed to make up a team for next season, and as usual the results vary enormously. Just deciding whether fit again James Brown should play in attack or wide on the right is difficult enough without filling all the other positions.
But one thing is certain … there will be more new faces in the team next season than old ones, and after what has happened in the last nine months that can’t be a bad thing.
Some fans, particularly those who travelled to watch the last game of the season at Bristol Rovers, would be quite happy to see virtually all the current crop shown the door, but that won’t happen as players who are still on contract will remain.
Also, some players whose contracts are due to expire at the end of June will probably fix themselves up elsewhere, while others will be told they won’t be offered a new deal at Pools.
While all the names are bandied about, we will make one prediction for now … Rune Lange will be one of the players added to the squad.
