The breakdown so far in their FA Cup run is:
First round victory - £20,000
Second round victory - £30,000
Third round victory - £75,000
TV highlights at Fleetwood - £7,500
Live radio v Stoke - £9,000
Live TV v West Ham - £160,000
Our steam-driven calculator makes that a total of £301,500 without any extra cash the club might have made on gate receipts for the four games played in the competition.
They have not played to full houses yet, even David Foley's stunner against Stoke (right) wasn't seen by a packed out Vic crowd, but it's sure to be full against the Hammers, and after expenses the Pools cut could be up to £30,000. If they beat West Ham, they get an extra £100,000.
So all in all, even if they lose to the Hammers, the club stands to make a THIRD OF A MILLION quid for the run – hopefully chairman Ken Hodcroft has a smile on his face, and hopefully some of that cash will be made availble for team strengthening.
But Cup runs don’t come cheap – Saturday’s League One game at Oldham is in danger because of a frozen pitch, and that means Pools are going to be busy in the final three months of the season as they catch up on postponed games caused by the weather and the Cup run.
One of Tuesday’s national papers reported that veteran striker Dean Windass has been told he can leave Hull, also claiming that Pools have made an early enquiry about taking him on loan.
As usual, it’s probably all guesswork and Windass will no doubt look at offers from more than just one club before making a decision.
And for those who suggest he might make a good player-manger for Pools, we have one question – what evidence is there for that?
