Michael Nelson
Pools played badly at the New Den, falling behind to an early goal by winger Lewis Grabban, well taken but given away by a defensive mistake. And it got worse a few minutes before half-time, when grabban's shot as stopped by Arran lee-Barrett, but the ball fell for Gary Alexander to score the clinching second goal.
It was a poor team display by Pools, and manager Danny Wilson was right when he said: "*We got what we deserved."
He added: "There were too many areas where our decision-making was poor. we didn't get out of the blocks early on, and we were punished straight away.
"Then we were in an identical position for the second goal, and that's just inexplicable. After the early goal we were always on the back foot and we didn't take the chances that came our way.
"But we didn't deserve anything from the game."
Wilson claimed that the tackle which caused Nelson's knee injury was late, and fears he could be out for Friday night's home game with Cheltenham.
The small squad he was forced to start the season with is being stretched already, and with four top players out, it's going to be difficult to put things right.
The Northern Echo's website report on the game ends with the following: "Pools boss Danny Wilson was not allowed to answer questions from The Northern Echo or Hartlepool Mail reporters at the New Den following the game. The club has banned both newspapers from media facilities at Victoria Park following a dispute. Wilson did, however, answer questions from the club staff and BBC Radio Tees before being ushered out of the press conference."
It appears the row between the papers and Pools has reached the playground "You started it" level. What a pity, when some Premiership football clubs are run by people who haven't a clue, a piffling row like this can't be sorted out.
* Note to the Pools heirarchy - in case you're wondering where we got our quotes from, we have a radio and when a station broadcasts an interview, it's in the public domain.
