Pools given home tie in Carling Cup
By Clarence Rode June 13 2008
Hartlepool United have been given a chance to chalk up a Carling Cup double by being drawn against Scunthorpe United in the first round of the 2008-09 competition. They beat the Iron away at gthe same stage last season, but the diference this time is that the tie will be played at Victoria Park.

David Foley scored twice to earn a 2-1 win last August against a side newly-promoted to the Championship, and it was a result which was considered a real feather in the Pools cap against a side that had done so well the previous season.
But Scunthorpe's season went from bad to worse and they were evenbtually relegated from the Championship.
The game is expected to be played at the Vic on Tuesday, August 12, though the clubs have yet to confirm that as the date.
MeaDutch shirtnwhile, the club's have have amazingly voted for the club's third-choice strip to be a day-glo orange shirt with black shorts. It beat the other two choices - all maroon and a sort of purple with white shorts - in a poll conducted by the club's website.
It's all a matter of taste, of course, but while Holland might look good in orange (right), that doesn't mean every team does. Hopefully, they won't have to wear it too often, cos in our opinion it's not a patch on the black and white striped jobs they wore now and then last season.
And while we're on the subject the second strip of yellow and green makes them look a bit too much like Norwich City.
The League One fixtures for next season are due to be announced on Monday, and with no Darlo to play - again - fans will probably be looking for the games against alleged big clubs Leeds United and Leicester City as the main attractions.
