Power is Pools first close-season signing

Alan Power
By Clarence Rode June 6 2008
Hartlepool United’s summer rebuilding programme has got under way with the signing of Irish midfield player Alan Power. The 20-year-old lacks senior experience after playing just one senior game in his three years with Nottingham Forest, but Pools boss Danny Wilson is pleased with his first capture.
He appears to be regarding Power as a player for the future, though he will no doubt get a chance to stake a claim on a starting place during pre-season training and friendly matches.
Power was outstanding when Forest Reserves won at Pools to clinch the title at the end of last season and has looked a good player at that level for two seasons.
Danny Wilson (Sept 07)Wilson told the Northern Echo: “He is a young player and we have to remember that. He has not had the experience of League football, but we think we have a player with the potential to really push on."We have had good reports from Nottingham Forest with regards to his temperament and character."I am sure from Alan's point of view that it was getting a little bit frustrating waiting to play, and sometimes it can be difficult to break into a settled team and a move is the best thing to push forward again."With Forest having been promoted, they are in a position to go out and buy experience so he found himself treading water for a little bit, but hopefully the fresh challenge will really help."Hopefully, Power will be the first of a few summer signings, but as usual the club is saying nowt and leaving fans to speculate.MEANWHILE Pools have announced details of their centenary tournament on July 26 and 27. Pools, Sunderland, Huddersfield and Hamilton Academical, just promoted to the Scottish premier League, are taking part, with two semi-finals on Saturday at 12.0 and 3.0, with the losers’ play-off on Sunday at 12.0, followed by the final at 3.0.
