David Foley - two goals
David Foley scored twice while Matty Tymon, Craig Gott and Martin Young were also on target in a comprehsive victory. Sheffield Wednesday's defeat at the hands of York City handed the title to Pools.
Whether the success of the club's other two teams will soon be reflected in the fortunes of the first team remains to be seen.
Players like Tymon, who has been scoring goals for fun this season, have had great campaigns, but the step up from the reserves and youth teams to the Football League is a massive one, and it takes an outstanding player to make the grade at the higher level.
The most recent example of a player making the grade is James Brown, of course, but Pools are confident there are others who can do it provided they are not rushed.
If that theory is right, the future could be a lot brighter than this season has been.
Manager Danny Wilson says there will be a lot of changes during the summer, and whether his planning will involve some of the club's young stars being given a chance to shine in League One remains to be seen.
