Gary Liddle
Whenever a penalty decision isn't a clear one, of course, there will always be controversy, and programmes like Match of the Day make a speciality of taking every penalty decision to prices to decide whether it was right or not.
On top of that there is currentrly a trend not to pillory refs because they are, after all, making their decisions in a split second and, we are told, always try to be fair to both teams.
But that doesn't stop them from getting them wrong, like Mr Probert did at the Vic on Saturday.
Ben Clark's (right) tackle on Jason Scotland was a strong one, but it was fair and he came away with the ball at his feet without a single Swansea player appealing for a penalty.
But they still got one.
Pools had done well against ther wind and rain in the first half, Gary Liddle giving them the lead after just 28 seconds before Darren Pratley blasted an equalizer on 23 minutes.
But then in added time Mr Probert got it wrong, Scotland scored from the spot, and Swansea never looked back.
As Wlson said, the decision knocked the stuffing out of Pools and to make matters worse, James Brown went off with bad bruising to a knee after an off-the-ball challenge and Liddle was taken to hospital for stitches to a gash on his thight after colliding with keeper Arran Lee-Barrett as Pratley scored Swansea's third on the breakaway.
Brown and Liddle look like missing games because of their injuries.
It was one of those games that shows how cruel football can be.
The fact that Pools were applauded off the pitch by their rain-soaked fans at then end shows what the paying customers felt.
Pools. you were robbed.
