Two home games give Pools chance to climb

Richard Barker - out
By Clarence Rode March 6 2008
They say that one or two good results can make all the difference in football, and Hartlepool have the chance to prove it in the next few days. After turning their away season round with a useful and deserved win at Oldham on Tuesday, they have two home games in four days which could virtually kill off any lingering fears of being sucked into the relegation battle.

The three points at Oldham were valuable, six from the games against Gillingham (Saturday) and Huddersfield (Tuesday) could provide priceless.
The win at Oldham halted the awful away run of two points from 11 games, and the home form hasn’t been good recently, either, so a return to winning ways would be very welcome.
But Pools will have to do it without top scorer Richard Barker, who picked up a knee injury at Oldham and has been ruled out for up to a month.
Gillingham currently occupy the fourth relegation spot in League One, with Port Vale, Bournemouth and Luton looking doomed already, so they’ll be keen to get a good result at the Vic. So will Huddersfield, an alleged big club who are under-performing, level on points with Pools.
Two wins and Danny Wilson’s men could suddenly find themselves on the fringe of the play-off race, and with nine games left after these two, anything could happen.
But Pools have not had a good season and it’s important for the team and the fans that they finish on a high note. With just under a quarter of the season to go, they have the chance to repair a lot of the damage done during an awful middle of the season run.

Now vote in the latest Poolsonline poll – is Danny Wilson the man to lead Pools next season?
