Pools follow defensive flop by signing a striker

Less than 24 hours after the worst defensive show for years, Hartlepool have gone into the loan market to sign ... a striker. And with 11 goals in their last three home games and Richard Barker taking his total for the season to 16, manager Danny Wilson says the new boy is just what Pools want.

Run that one past us again, Danny, will you?
You and the club's fans watched a shocker of a defensive performance against the worst team in League One on Tuesday night, so you've signed a striker?
You've scored 11 in the last three home games and Richard Barker's two against Port Vale took him to 16 for the season. But a striker's been signed before a defender?
Michael Nelson and Sam Collins are suspended at Cheltenham on Saturday, keeper Jan Budtz looked a bag of nerves againt Port Vale, and Godwin Antwi wasn't any better.
But talking about new signing, Boro 21-year-old Tom Craddock, you tell the club website: "He has terrific movement, good pace and an eye for goal, and that is something we need in the team at the moment."
You are probably right, Danny, because apart from Barker, the forwards aren't scoring as often as they should be.
But isn't it more important to strengthen the defence?
Hopefully, at least one of the irons you have said the club has in the fire will produce a lean, mean defending machine to help put things right at the back before it all ends in tears.
By the way, we hope bolth Barker and Craddock score hat tricks at Cheltenham. But if they do, it's to be hoped the defence plays better than it did on Tuesday, otherwise they'll still probably lose.
