Excelsior to increase stadium capacity
Excelsior are planning to extend their stadium-capacity by making use of the empty four corners of the stadium to build extra seating for 1,000 spectators. The construction work will cost €1.5 million Euros and take 6 months to complete. Excelsior asked Rotterdam city council for a subsidy to pay for the work immediately after gaining promotion at the end of last season. The extra seating will increase capacity at the Woudenstein stadium to 4,500.
Fortuna to sell stadium
Fortuna have been searching since the beginning of the season for potential buyers for their "De Wagner & Partners Stadion". The club need the money to be able to guarantee that a sound financial plan for next season will earn them a new license. The Dutch FA (KNVB) recently announced stricter rules for obtaining licenses and many clubs are faced with some tough financial decisions if they are to meet the new demands being placed on them. Fortuna are one of the few clubs left in Holland who actually own their own stadium (most are owned by the relevant municipal councils where they are located).
