| What is the ground like? | ||||||||
| Portman
Road has always been the home of Ipswich Town and it became the first
all seated stadium in the country in 1993.
Portman Road has been under redevelopment for the past two
seasons and the work will come to an end at the beginning of the
coming season bringing the capacity to over 30,000.
The North and South Stands have recently been given dramatic
facelifts to enable more supporters to see the matches.
More executive boxes have also been added to the Britannia
Stand.
Ipswich offer a good quality match day programme that has been voted ‘Programme of the Year’ on numerous occasions and it is priced at roughly £2.50. It offers good value for money and a reasonable read. The pre match and half time entertainment isn’t that great but the Club puts in a decent effort. Every now and then, you have a youth penalty shoot-out or a visit from a local band. PA man, Rob Chandler, helps to create an atmosphere before the match and the Portman Road mascots; Bluey and Crazee the Horses join in the entertainment. |

| What is it like for away fans? | ||||||||
|
The away fans are seated in the Upper Cobbold, which is at the Princess Street end of Portman Road, and is under cover. Unfortunately, the ground cannot cope with large numbers of away supporters since the catering facilities and toilets are limited in size. Queues sometimes form outside the away block because of routine security checks so I would recommend arriving in plenty of time. Away supporters are generally treated with courtesy but do expect some friendly banter! Suffolk people are usually very friendly and crowd trouble is a rare occurrence, leaving away fans safe to wear their colours. |
||||||||
| Where is their for away fans to drink? | ||||||||
|
Most
of the pubs around Portman Road welcome any football supporters.
The nearest pubs are: The
Drum and Monkey, Princess Street –
Because this is the closest to the ground, it is a firm favourite with
away supporters. If you
just want a quick drink before the match, this is the place to go. The
Swan, Arcade Street – Popular
footy pub that serves decent enough food.
It also has a beer garden. |
||||||||

Filter left at Cambridge or find yourself on the M11.
When approaching Ipswich, do not take the first exit but carry
on down the A14 until you reach the ‘Toys ‘R’ Us’ roundabout

You will travel up a hill until you see the Sainsbury’s
