| What is the ground like? | ||||||||
| The ground is situated just out of the city centre.
It is currently undergoing a bit of a refurbishment, with two corners
filled in now. The capacity, when all the work is done will be around the
32,000 mark. The Kop is situated on Shoreham Street, behind one of the
goals. This stand is where most of the chanting originates, and can give a
great rendition of famous Greasy Chip Butty song. It also is the cheapest
stand to go in for the home fans (although the price is going up from £10/£12
to £20 for the 2002/3 season, which has kicked up a bit of a stink with
the fans).
The South Stand is situated on Cherry Street. This stand is where the changing rooms are, also the ticket office and club shop are located in this stand. The John Street Stand is the newest stand at Bramall Lane, it contains the executive boxes and family stand. The Bramall Lane stand is the one that is allocated for away fans. Its a two tiered affair, with most teams given the lower tier, which is mostly uncovered so if its raining bring a jacket. The upper tier has possibly the best view in the ground, but suffers from a few supporting pillars. The upper tier has been allocated to home fans in the past, but i am unsure about the coming season. Overall I feel that Bramall Lane is one of the better grounds in Division One, it still has character that is rarely seen in the newer stadia. Facilities are generally good, with beer served in all stands except the Kop. Disable supporters, as far as I am aware, are located in the John Street Stand. |

| What is it like for away fans? | ||||||||
| It is advisable not to wear your team's colours around the ground or in town, especially if your team has a reputation for being a bit 'naughty'. Away fans are allocated the lower tier of the Bramall Lane end, which holds about 2,000. If required the club can allocate the upper tier also, which brings the total allocation up to about 5,000. Away coaches drop off and pick up directly behind the stand. It is probably worth noting that all fans are let out at the same time, so if the game has been controversial or has riled the United 'fans' for whatever reason, it can get quite intimidating for those away supporters walking to the train station. Beer is served in the Bramall Lane end, and the pies aren't too bad (Chicken Balti is probably the best). | ||||||||
| Where is their for away fans to drink? | ||||||||
| The nearest pub to the ground that away fans can drink in is probably the Golden Lion. This is at the top end of Bramall Lane, on a side street on the right, more or less opposite the Sheaf House. Otherwise many away fans drink in the pubs near the train station, The Howard, The Globe and the Yorkshire Grey (which is up the hill from the station and left). The Cossack is another pub near the station, but it's…um…infamous for its 'liberal sexual views', if you get my drift. If you like your real ale then a pub worth a visit is The Devonshire Cat, which is located on Devonshire Green. A taxi is probably the easiest way of finding it, and its about a 10 minute walk to the ground. The nearest Wetherspoons are either: up the hill from the station, go between the Yorkshire Grey and Roebuck Tavern, past the HSBC on the corner and right onto Cambridge Street, and about 100 metres up on the left, or; up the hill from the train station, turn right at the top and go down the main street, past the Crucible on the left and the Odeon cinema on the right. Its called the Bankers Draft, and its on the other side of the tram line, you can't miss it because its on a corner, and its massive. | ||||||||
| How to get their and where to park? | ||||||||
| Car: M1 j33, follow signs for City Centre and then signs for Bramall Lane. It really is that simple!! Parking is on street around the ground. There are a couple of multistoreys in town which are about 5-10mins walk from the ground. | ||||||||
| Where is the nearest train station? | ||||||||
| Train Station: Nearest one (obviously) is Sheffield. To get from the station to the ground: turn left out of station, go past the roundabout and cross over to the Showroom Cinema. Carry on past Sheffield Red Tape Studios, Sheffield Archives and BBC Radio Sheffield (which should all be on your right). You'll get to a dual carriageway, cross and continue up the long straight street (Shoreham Street). You'll see the ground to your right. Follow the red and white shirts and you can't go wrong basically! |
