STB message boarder Leggi is back again and is once again giving us an insight into Town's opposition, on Tuesday Town face Birmingham City at St Andrews.

Birmingham City

Eighth placed Ipswich make the trip to St Andrews on Tuesday night to take on high flyers Birmingham City. Both side's enjoyed decent wins over the weekend, Town, of course, beat Derby whilst City came from behind to beat Swansea away 3-2 on Friday evening.

Alex McLeish and his side look set to go straight back up this season following their final day relegation from the top flight last term. City currently sit second in The Championship, ten points ahead of Town, and four points clear of third placed Reading. They have lost just three games so far, their biggest victory is by 3 goals to one against Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrews last month. All three of the losses were by a 0-1 scoreline against Blackpool (H), QPR (A) and most recently Coventry City (H). Their overall record this campaign reads: Played 18, Won 11, Drawn 4 and Lost 3. They have hit the net 25 times and conceded 15.

McLeish has a squad that ooze's Premiership class, on-loan, Nicky Hunt, Liam Ridgewell, Frank Queudrue and Lee Carsley to name a few, whilst up front they have the prolific, Kevin Phillips who is currently the clubs leading scorer with 8 goals, despite playing most of his football after being used as a substitute this season. They have plenty of other talent to choose from too, Garry O' Connor and Cameron Jerome have each netted 4 times, James McFadden and Quincy Owusu Abeyie both have 3 and Former Town striker Marcus Bent notched his first for The Blues in Fridays win at Swansea. It is certainly going to be a busy night for Richard Naylor and Company.

Referee for Tuesday's encounter is Mr Rob Shoebridge from Derbyshire. He has never officiated a game featuring Birmingham or Ipswich. So far this season he has officiated 17 games, given out 37 yellow cards and 3 reds.

Birmingham will be in their traditional home strip of blue shirts, blue shorts and white socks, whilst Ipswich Town will play in their change strip of Red shirts, red shorts and red socks.

Form Table:
(2nd) Ipswich Town P6 W4 D1 L1
(8th) Birmingham City P6 W3 D1 L2

Match fact: Town have only Won once in their last 12 visits to St Andrews. That victory came in 1986, the same season both clubs were relegated from the 'old' First Division.

Our League record away at Birmingham City

Played: 28
Won: 7
Drawn: 10
Lost: 11
Goals:
For: 28
Against: 37

From our 7 victories the greatest is by 3 goals to nil in a Division one game in 1973, Colin Harper, Bryan Hamilton and Mick Lambert on the scoresheet. Our heaviest defeat is a 5-1 reversal, which came when we were League Champions in 1962. Ted Phillips got our consolation goal.

The highest attendance is 32,705, who saw Ipswich win by 2 goals to one in December 1972.
The lowest gate, just 5,932 watched a Birmingham victory 1-0 in 1988. Home and away in all competitions we have played 'The Blues' 65 times winning 30, losing 24 and drawing 11 we have scored 97 goals to Birmingham's' 82. From those 65 games, Alan Brazil is our leading scorer with 8 goals. John Wark, Paul Mariner and Ray Crawford got 6 and Mick Lambert got 4.

Twenty-six players have worn the blue of both clubs, they include, Alex Bruce, David Geddis, Keith Bertschin, Steve Whitton and Paul Cooper.

Leggi predicts: So it was back to winning ways for us on Saturday, now we face, I think, our toughest test of the season so far. We have a dismal record at St Andrews in recent years, but knowing that City have lost at home already to average sides, Blackpool and Coventry must give us some hope!! Its their attack against our defence that worries me, Bent, McFadden, Jerome and Abeyie all top class finishers, then they have the back up of Phillips on the bench (who always scores against us), all our back four will have to be at their best. If we can keep it tight at the back we could 'nick' this but I'll settle for a point. 2-2 I'll say.

Got a prediction for the game? Leave it below.

MK, I'd trying ringing St Andrews itself, they'll probably be selling them on the day, can't see us selling our full allocation. Think Mickdee's going, have a look for him!!!
Don't bother ringing Ipswich ticket line, its like my ar5e, (I think its still got ticket information for the 78 cup final in there)

Cheers Leggi, I'll give them a ring tomorrow. I see that there selling them on the gate for home fans so can't see it being different for away fans.
(Sm6) Can't help but laugh at that. It is sh*te though. The few times I've had to ring them, they've managed to be as unhelpful as possible.
