Town manager Jim Magilton: "I saw them in a friendly at Norwich and he has the basis of a very good side. It is early days and the players are still getting used to the whole helter-skelter of a new season.
"They have a new goalscorer and they will be fine.
"It is a Carling Cup clash, a local derby under the lights, so I'm really looking forward to the game. George will relish it to.
"They will bring a few fans so it should be a good game.
"It can be a confidence booster. Without the win over Leyton Orient the result at Burnley might have been different.
"I will use the squad as best I can but it is a chance for a cup run. If you manage to get through this round then you can get one of the big boys."
Colchester look set to hand a debut too David Perkins who has served a suspension, Steven Gillespie could also feature.
Colchester manager Geraint Williams: "After beating Swindon (3-1), we can now all look forward to the Ipswich game. On the back of those three points, we have been able to rest up and recover.
"This local derby means so much to the fans. We're level in league matches after those two seasons in the Championship. We both won our two home matches, and I believe we even scored the same number of goals.
"We are confident of giving anyone a good game, as we showed when drawing 2-2 at Norwich in pre-season. It's good to have these two local derbies so quickly after our relegation.
"It's a shame that we were not drawn at home, because I'm sure the visit of Ipswich would have packed out the Community Stadium. But we are at Portman Road, and Ipswich will be tough to beat there,"
