Shumulikoski and Lisbie kick off on home turf, hoping for more of a repeat from the trip to Turf Moor than the last match at home; it soon becomes clear what it appears this will turn out to be.
Wolves take control early on with pace and a clear game plan. The visitors get their first chance at goal when Bruce concedes a corner in the 3rd minute, Kightly curls in a long ball to the far end of the Town box where Thatcher is ready to clear out to Haynes on the left wing, Haynes tries to counter attack but cannot get past the controlling visitors.
5 minutes gone and again it's a Wolves attack Ebanks-Blake does well to keep Richard Wright from collecting the ball but his efforts go to waste as he loses the ball to a Town throw.
Town have their first corner in the 6th minute, Miller does not play the ball well as it falls well outside the Wolves defending box, Shumulikoski tries to make something with it swinging the ball goalwards from around 20 yards and landing it well into the Green King stand.
A foul on Lisbie wins Town a free kick in the 7th minute, Deep in the Town half Naylor passes the ball back to the new skipper, McAuley, who sends on to Thatcher on the wing, Thatcher tries to reach Lisbie with a long ball but the Wolverhampton defence intercept the ball in flight and it is knocked out of play.
Soon after Wolves are on the chase for goal, Naylor puts a temporary halt to the attack sending out for a throw, as Wolves bring the ball back in Thatcher defends Foleys efforts.
Naylor clears the ball in the 12th minute but Wolves manage to keep possession and keep putting pressure on the Town box. Both Bruce and Naylor are working at full pace to keep the attacks from reaching goal, but the visiting team are a class above and too fast for the only two boys in blue that even look worthy of getting paid.
As Town continue to hesitate Ebanks-Blake heads for goal, Wright collects the ball but not directing his defenders as to what they should be doing instead of topping up their summer tan.
Quarter of an hour into the match I am already itching for half time, hoping tonight's X-factor will be good as I have already suffered enough torture to last me a month in enduring these 15 minutes of a sorry excuse for sport.
Town finally manage to break, but as Lisbie out wide gets ahead and looks to pass Lee doesn't in fact he actually turns round and starts running back toward his own half.
18 minutes played and a tactical switch sees Haynes and Walters swap positions on the wings.
Wolves continue to attack but Naylor and Bruce stay strong to spare Town of any real danger and manage to win the goal kick.
Jarvis puts a cross through the Town defence as the clock hits 20 minutes played with no challenges from blue shirts anywhere the ball reaches Kightly 6 yards from goal, with time and space he heads the ball into the far bottom corner of the goal giving Town keeper right no chance. We all saw it coming it's the visitors that take the lead.
No rest for the wicked as Jarvis continues to run havoc on the wings, Bruce intercepts, sending the ball out for a Wolves throw, and play from throw leads to more activity between Bruce and Jarvis this time Bruce gives away a corner. Kightly takes, but Miller heads clear from the Town box, but not far enough, a gold shirt lobs the ball back into Towns defending box but the flag goes up and the whistle blows announcing an offside against the visitors.
Town win a free kick in the 25th minute in their own half as Thatcher is wrestled down, a long ball is played and falls to Lisbie in the opposition box, he heads for goal but is pulled back by a Wolves defender and the ball is deflected wide.
Shumulikoski is booked in the 27th minute for shirt pulling.
A minute later Haynes plays a ball to Lee, yet again Lee runs away.
Wolves win a free kick in the 30th minute, taken by Foley to be headed wide of the goal by Collins.
Haynes takes as rest in the 34th minute, and as he lies injured on the floor Wolves continue on their campaign for a 2nd, this only aggravates the near hostile home fans further.
Walters moves again in the 36th minute, now in his 3rd pitch position of the match Lee slips back to the Left wing and Walters moves forward.
Shumulikoski makes a good challenge to win possession for Town leading to good attacking play from the home team, but nothing comes of it.
40 minutes gone and Wolves continue to have control of the match, when another ball from the visitors attacks the Town box the attack is brought to an end by a surprising defensive clearance from striker Alan Lee.
A minute later the brute attacking force of the visitors continues to blast, Bruce puts in everything to catch up to Jarvis and manages to block the busy Wanderer from crossing the ball into the Town box
There is barely time to breath before the Town box is again bombarded this time the ball is with Iwelumo but his shot is stopped in the hands of Richard Wright.
After a poor excuse for a free kick from Town is played, Wolves counter immediately leaving Magilton's not so merry men behind them, the pace is slowed just long enough for a few of the Town team to catch up, meaning Shumulikoski was ready when a ball passes his way.
Town manage to get in one more futile effort before half time from a free kick to the left of the Wolves box, Millers ball is knocked back out of the defending box but Haynes finds it and blasts the ball wide. Yes Haynes, that's right, it's not like you had options around you is it?
Just one change at half time, to the home fans relief Lee is replaced by cheeky Counago bringing Walters back into position on the left wing.
Town start the 2nd half brighter than Wolves glove man, Hennessey's aluminous yellow kit, Counago's first ball was a good one, He plays to the support of Miller, and the support loses it, Counago not in the mood fights to regain possession and ends up being awarded a free kick. The free kick leads to a throw also to the home team, but their time in attack is cut short when an offside is given against Town.
Wolves make their goal ward return in the 47th minute but the combined forces of Naylor and Bruce put a stop to the visitor's efforts.
A great run from Walters provides Counago with a chance 22 yards from goal, with not enough height or power the ball falls straight for Hennessey, but the home fans show appreciation for the Spaniards efforts.
There is more encouraging play from the home team in the 51st minute when Lisbie supplies Haynes with the chance at goal, it's a good strike but just over the bar, Town quickly regain possession from Hennessey's goal kick and take the ball back up to the visitors box in front of the north stand, Lisbie is there again to supply a decent ball, this time to Counago who again gifts the ball to the Wolverhampton keeper.
Garvan replaces Shumulikoski for the blues in midfield in the 54th minute.
Wolves get back into the game in the 57th minute with Kightly, quick onto the ball; his impressive movements are wasted when clear on goal he blasts the ball wide.
On the hour Wolves show their abilities as keeper Hennessey is caught at the edge of his 18 yard box and the Tractor boys pass him, but Wolves lead remains safe as two gold shirts man the goal line and clear the threat.
Henry is booked for decent whilst Wolverhampton's defensive woes continue as Elokobi lays injured in his own box as a result of the play during the previous goal mouth fiasco in the 60th minute, from the sides it looks bad as the medics mount around him from both teams and St Johns, he is strapped to the stretcher and his left leg put in protective wear, but news of his injury is not yet known. Obviously in a lot of pain Elokobi receives a standing ovation as the medical teams carry him past the North and Britannia stands into the tunnel, he is replaced on the field by Ward.
Play restarts 4 minutes later and its Town that pose the threat, Miller and Henry continue their match long scuffle, this time winning Town a free kick, Millers ball in is headed out of the 18 yard box but quickly returned by Garvan, an offside decision mean yet another Town effort ceases to nothing.
Haynes in down for the 3rd time in the 66th minute and the home crowd are getting tired with the player obviously not fit to be on the pitch, he is taken to the side line in front of the Cobbold stand where he is treated as play continues.
Trotter prepares to replace Haynes who still lays being stretched and massaged, the substitution is finally made in the 70th minute when play is stopped for a Wolverhampton free kick, it's a good ball into the box where there is some fast play, after going down from blocking a previous shot another ball comes flying in and from the floor Wright stretches out and manages to divert the ball with the tips of his fingers, hats off, that's what your there for! But where were our goal line reinforcements, we had none.
In the 73rd minute Wolves are enjoying a nice bout of possession win a corner, Jones takes it but McAuley head clear and onto a Town attack, which is interrupted half way into the Wolves half by Stearman of the Wolves defence, Fancy that!
Soon after Towns hopes ended in a double blow, in a moment of possible madness Bruce saw fit to go straight in on a two-footed challenge right in front of referee Mr. Tanner, Bruce earned a straight red for his actions and a free kick was awarded to Wolves, The ball was played into the box, a close range shot was fired from Henry blocked but not caught by right falling perfectly for Edwards to blast past Town's number one. Wolves have doubled their lead.
With little break, Wright again had to show his move when Edwards look to seal their 3 away points. Edwards was then booked for time wasting following his shot.
Wright was again faced with Edwards with a ball from Kightly, this time Wright was caught out but McAuley made his presence known clearing the ball from an open goal.
Counago again failed to pass Hennessey with a ball from Walters, tired and fed up Counago received a booking for a needless challenge on Ward.
5 minutes of time was added on as the home fans disappointedly depart, during which time Wolves make their final substitution with Keogh replacing the hard working Kightly.
Jarvis came close to making goals and points equal with the last attack of the game rattling the post and the Town fans hearts. The game ended to a roar of boo's displaying their anger and disappointment, only 3 Home players turned to acknowledge their loyal fans, leaving the faces of every Ipswich Town fan far from smiling.
Magilton stated he was ‘embarrassed' yes so were we, but are the players when they open up their pay cheques?
