Sartid Not Sorted For Town
By STB Staff
September 20 2002
Alun Armstrong rescued Ipswich from a UEFA Cup loss at Portman Road last night. Ipswich, who were fighting to keep their proud home European record in tact went behind to the Yugoslavians after 31 minutes.
Town, who did not play particularly well on the occasion, had many chances to go ahead during the first half.

An error by veteran defender Mark Venus allowed Sartid to go ahead after just 31 minutes.

Ipswich felt threatened by Sartid, who said that they felt Ipswich were the weakest team in their UEFA Cup pool, and struggled once again to find the back of the net.

Sartid's top scorer last season, Nenad Mirosavljevic, rattled the ball into the net leaving Andy Marshall without any hope.

Spaniard Pablo Counago looked to be the player to get Ipswich back in the game. The young striker continued to push forward for the Super Blues only to be denied by Zilic on numerous occasions.

For a short spell in the second half, Ipswich looked full of life and Sartid appeared to be intimidated by the amount of noise the Ipswich fans were making.

Ipswich equalised after ten minutes into the second half when John McGreal produced a ball for Alun Armstrong to beat the Yugoslav 'keeper and level it out for Town.

All throughout the second half, Town came so close to winning the match but failed to find that killer instinct up front.

Blues boss Burley must feel that a striker is needed as the regulars are struggling to find the back of the net.
