Smith Pleased at Superb Performance

February 3 2013

Ipswich Town defender Tommy Smith was understandably very pleased to score twice as his side ran out 4-0 winners at Portman Road against Middlesborough.

Speaking to the Official Club Website after the game, Smith said of the match: "It’s always a nice feeling when you get yourself on the scoresheet but it’s even better when the team gets the three points as well. I thought we performed superbly throughout and it was a solid all-round performance today.

"As a defender I pride myself on keeping clean sheets, so to have done that and scored a couple of goals to help us win the game sums up a pretty perfect day for me.

“We’ve been working on our set-pieces a lot in training and me and Chambo (Luke Chambers) like to vary who runs where, so it’s difficult for defenders to pick us up.

“It’s worked well for us today and the ball has found me in the right areas and I’ve managed to score two goals, which I’m obviously delighted with. The main thing was getting the three points though and I think our performance certainly deserved the win.”
