Teenage duo's immediate future remains with Crewe

Crewe Alexandra and England Under 17 stars Nick Powell and Max Clayton are set to stay at the Alex. The duo have previously been linked with a host of Premiership giants including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Liverpool have also had an approach for Clayton blocked. Recent speculation surrounding the pair, and the transfer fee’s that they would command, has been rife, although their short term future at least seems likely to be at Gresty Road.

The Railwaymen’s boss, Dario Gradi, is extremely keen to oversee the development and of both 16 year olds and ensure a successful transition into first team football. Given Gradi’s track record of nurturing young talent Crewe will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the pair and ensure that they reach their full potential.

Powell has had mixed performances whilst making several appearances from the substitutes bench so far this season, whilst Clayton has yet to join his academy colleague on the bench so far after suffering from a knee injury.

Nick Powell, England Both of the Crewe youngsters are set to play a part in England Under 17’s upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Sweden, Georgia and Poland. England take on the side’s in Georgia between 18th – 23rd October. Fellow Crewe Academy prospect Ben Garrett will also be hoping to play a part in the fixtures.
