Newcastle United’s Papiss Cisse has been substituted off after just 50 minutes with what is rumoured to be a re-occurrence of his back injury which led him to miss the Senegal International friendly last week, causing him to then be withdrawn on Saturday under FIFA’s ruling.
The striker was escorted straight down the tunnel by a member of the medical team after being replaced by Roman Amalfitano.
Earlier this evening Hatem Ben Arfa went off with a hamstring injury and joined 8 other players who are currently seeking treatment. If Cisse is struggling with his back, he is unlikely to be available at the weekend and becomes Newcastle’s 10th injured player.
Yohan Cabaye (groin), Shola Ameobi (groin), Gabriel Obertan (toe), Jonas Gutierrez (knee), James Perch (thigh), Dan Gosling (knee), Ryan Taylor (knee) and Haris Vuckic (knee) are all unavailable.
Newcastle again have the highest number of injuries in the Premier League, a familiar top spot for Pardew’s side, but one with a dip in League form could prove costly as we head towards the festive fixtures.
