David Edgar: "It was a difficult decision to leave"
By Tyne-Talk
July 3 2009
Former Newcastle United defender David Edgar told yesterday why he left the club to join newly promoted Premier League outfit Burnley City. The 22 year old Canadian turned down a new contract offered by Newcastle in favour of a 4 year deal offering regular first team football.

He told The Shields Gazette;

"It was a difficult decision to leave, but it seems for the best. Moving to Burnley was just too good an opportunity to turn down.

Really, it's down to playing more than anything. I'm 22, and I've got to be playing first-team football.

With the situation at Newcastle, it probably made it easier for me. But I have to say that Newcastle is my second home, and having spent eight years there, it has been a tough situation.

I still feel for everybody up there, and I'm sorry to be leaving a lot of good people behind.

I'll be back to say goodbye to everybody - from the players and the security guards to the kitchen staff and the backroom team - who have all been great to me.

Life goes on for me now, and I have to do well for my new club, but I'd like to think when I played, I gave 110 per cent effort.

Yes, I did have some good games and bad games, but I always sweated blood for the cause.

Who knows what might have happened if I'd played a few more games? I might have established myself there, but it wasn't to be, and I have to move on now."

Can't blame him for leaving but he is going to develop into a good player and should have probably been given more chances. Ah well.
