Ameobi's New 3 Year Deal
By Tyne-Talk
January 7 2009
Shola Ameobi has become Newcastle United’s first signing of the year. The 27 year old has signed a new three year deal keeping him at St James’ Park until 2012. Shola who has made 14 appearances this season and scored three times told the official website he is “delighted” by the deal.

He was quoted saying;

“I hadn't played for a while and had to prove myself again. Thankfully I believe I did that. Now I can look forward to playing a lot more games for Newcastle, which didn't look likely a few months ago.

I believe I can do that and now my future is in order I can focus on getting it right on the pitch.

Getting fit and playing games if all I wanted to do. It had been a while since I was able to do that.''

He told the Official website;

"I'm delighted to sign a new deal and commit my future to Newcastle United."

Ameobi is the first of several players, including Michael Owen, Steve Harper and Nicky Butt who have been offered new contracts, to accept and sign one.

YEYY! Our legend Foluwashola is backtongue sticking out smiley
Honestly I'd give Martins-Ameobi a crack upfront. Owen wants off and Viduka is a waste of time if he isn't bothered!

We could do with a good clear out that's for sure.

Might as well keep Ameobi I suppose. He's an okay backup striker, and he'll always give his best for the club. He would be costly to replace. We'd be lucky to get £1m for him, and what can you buy for that?

I'd rather see Carroll given a run of games than Ameobi. Or any young striker who may actually still have room for improvement. Letting donkeys like Shola keep prospects out of the side stunts the development of young players. If NUFC had Walcott he'd probably be kept out of the side by Duff...

He's keeping young promising players out of teh squad. He needs to go as soon as the size of the squad allows it. I don't know why we signed him.
