Kinnear Wants Ferguson But Needs To Sell To Buy
By Tyne-Talk
January 3 2009
Joe Kinnear has announced a keen interest in Rangers captain Barry Ferguson but also said that of all those who Newcastle have expressed an interest in, no bids have been accepted so far. The transfer window has been open just 3 days and with what seems to be little money in the kitty the rumour mill is in overdrive with stories of players having to be sold to compensate for new signings.
Kinnear will have fuelled those rumours by indicating he is trying to sell but isn't getting the bids.

He said;

"I have enquired about Ferguson, but we will wait and see what the outcome of that is.

We are finding it difficult to bring certain players from clubs. Our bids haven't been accepted so far.

The problem is two or three clubs are in for the same players. At the moment, there could be teams bidding more than us.

It would help if I could move some of the players here and get the finances in that way. But we have had no bids for them."

Ferguson, 30, is one of five players Kinnear is hoping to bring in to enhance his side and to step in whilst many players remain injured.

He added;

"The January transfer window is hardly ideal. We have a lot of players missing at the moment who are out for six weeks or more.

That means it's tough. If we pick up more injuries, we are in trouble for West Ham next week. We really need to get some bodies in. We need versatile players in who can play in a number of positions.

We have got injuries all over the pitch. But we have to grin and bare it."

Rangers today said no enquiry has been made from Newcastle regarding Ferguson. Rangers are also unlikely to sell.

In addition to Ferguson, reports yesterday suggested that Joe Kinnear was prepared to make a £4.5million bid for Madjid Bougherra who is due to return from a thigh injury this weekend. Rangers are likely to sell Bougherra if an offer is made that they cannot reject.

I like the fact he wants to bring 5 players in, and depending who he sells, that might not be a bad thing either, the problem I have though is that Ferguson is not the right standard of player we should be looking at. His 30, so the age is problematic, while I don't think he was great at Blackburn so his premier league record is not exciting me either. Jimmy Bullard is younger and in much better form while also has proven premier league pedigree. We should be looking at better players in my opinion, but then again, maybe we don't have that luxury, due to our off the field troubles.

uh huh.

Worries me that IF he has to sell to buy - he must have players on the "market" and no one is interested = no one comes in.

I'd like to see Bullard too - but he is practically begging Fulham to keep him on whatever terms they are prepared to offer.

He better be joking... Ferguson is not an improvement. He couldnt cut in the premier when he was younger..now at 30 - no chance!

yeah this is concerning that MA hasn't provided finances - i was worried when in that statement he mentioned running the club in a responsible manner at all levels - meaning he won't spend any of his own fortune. its going to be a rough month lads.

My thoughts exactly.

I wasn't expecting Kaka, but Barry f*ckin Ferguson!

I've always said i'll reserve making a judgement on Ashley until the window closes. But, if we have another break even transfer window i'm switch to the Ashley out camp!

He can't take our money and pocket it, that's not financial stability - it's daylight robbery!

Re: Kinnear Wants Ferguson But Needs To Sell To Buy
according to todays journal kinnear is expecting to raise £16m with the sale of 3 players. none of them being given or owen. so who's up for sale then? hopefully man city have put a 15m bid in for shola and he isnt gonna sell the likes of taylor or n'zogbia who are the only ones actually worth owt.

yeah 16 million for geremi ameobi and smith seems a little high. i think that its going to be a 'who blinks' first scenario with JFK ans Ashely. I don't undestand Ashley's tihnking.

I don't know enough about Ferguson to comment about him, but it's kind of scary that no one wants our players or any player wants to come here.

actually i would take ferguson - aslong as he isn't the whole budget like. He would act as decent competition for Barton, Butt and Guthrie.

Re: Kinnear Wants Ferguson But Needs To Sell To Buy
Lets get one thing straight. If Ashley didnt trust Keegan with any cash, do you really think he is going to trust Kinnear?

Kinnear is Ashleys puppet, end of.

Once again, I think Wise would take money for any of our players and then Joe would be sent out to toe the company line and say he "didnt really want them anyway".

Make no mistake, all ambition has drained away from our club and, if we are very lucky, we will be one of those bottom 8 clubs that annually battle relegation.

Wake up and smell the coffee people, we are screwed with this @#$%& in charge.

Re: Kinnear Wants Ferguson But Needs To Sell To Buy
I really dont think we can afford to lose many players in the transfer market. We could do with Man City coming in with a rediculosly high bid for an ok player never gonna happen but you never know.

We can do better than Barry Ferguson ex Crapburn Rovers palyer who did nothing special, i think we are capable of signing Jimmy Bullard from Fulham and i would love to see him at Newcastle, we need to be aiming for players like him who can make an impact.

Re: Kinnear Wants Ferguson But Needs To Sell To Buy
Can't understand this club's obvious preference for players with no PL experience. For example, while we've dicked around with the likes of Cacapa, Colocinni (the best of the lot to be fair), Rozehnal, Bassong et al., Ben Haim, Jagielka, Anton Ferdinand and Curtis Davies have all been available. At least you know what you're getting with a PL-tested player-a reason not to buy Ferguson. But of course, he'd be better than nobody.

Name three NUFC players who could be sold for £16M, none of whom are Owen or Given. It's quite a riddle, innit?

I'd rather not though, we've been crying out for Premier League experience for ages and Ferguson was a flop for Blackburn. Looks like Geremi could be on his way out, could start our transfer dealings.

Geremi to be sold, huh? I guess we're looking at Taylor as fulltime RB with Cacapa as the only defensive cover until Beye gets back.

Geremi can go, if we get some kinda money for him - like 3m. that would be perfect!
