Match Preview/Thread/Stats: Newcastle v Stoke City
By Tyne-Talk
December 5 2008
Newcastle United host Stoke City this weekend in their 15th match of the season. Both teams at battling a very close mid to lower table fight which see's 9 teams all within reaching distance of each other.

Newcastle have won 2 of their last 6 games but take on Stoke of the back of a goal-less draw at Middlesbrough, whilst Stoke have won 3 of their last 6 games, which included cup ties but travel on a 1-1 draw from their last Premier League game against Hull and a defeat in the League Cup in midweek.

Newcastle have been fairly consistent of late in either conceding, scoring or conceding and scoring 2 goals a game aside of the Chelsea & Middlesbrough fixtures, whereas Stoke's recent goal record is of 1 goal games (either scored or conceded), aside of their 5-0 thrashing at Old Trafford.

Joe Kinnear could be tempted to field an un-changed team to that of last weekend as he searches for his first win in four games, meaning Viduka and now fit defender Steven Taylor will both be likely to start on the bench. In addition to Taylor's return Xisco is back having recovered from a hamstring injury leaving Kinnear without Shola Ameobi who has a foot/ankle injury, Joey Barton, Alan Smith who is not quite fit from an foot problem and Gonzalez who remains sidelined with a long term Achilles problem.

Stoke who continue to surprise people will be expecting former Newcastle player Abdoulaye Faye to return to the fold after recovering from a thigh injury, he will join fellow former Toon players Amdy Faye and Andy Griffin as the trio hope to shake up the match.

Stoke will be without Kitson who has a knee injury and defender Ryan Shawcross who has a bad back.

NUFC: Given, Harper, Beye, Enrique, N'Zogbia, Bassong, Coloccini, Taylor, Cacapa, Edgar, Butt, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Geremi, Owen, Martins, Viduka, Carroll, Xisco.

STOKE: Sorensen, Griffin, Abdoulaye Faye, Cort, Higginbotham, Soares, Tonge, Amdy Faye, Diao, Delap, Sidibe, Fuller, Simonsen, Olofinjana, Whelan, Cresswell, Dickinson, Sonko, Pugh, Pericard.

Re: Match Preview/Thread/Stats: Newcastle v Stoke City
I've changed my mind I think it will be 2-0 to us.
Our back four have kept out Middlesborough and Chelsea, Stoke should be no problem and they played in midweek.

Newcastle 4 - 2 Stoke

Think it'll be a high scoring game with us edging it.

Another b0ll0x result.
2-2 at home to Stoke is just not acceptable in my book (especially when we were 2-0 up).

Drawing 2-2 is becoming Kinnears trademark

Can see why Kinnear was @#$%& off at the end with the referee. Surely that wasn't a free kick Bassong had his hands up the whole time to show that he wasn't holding or manipulating the stoke player.
