Kinnear Stays & Talks Transfers
By Tyne-Talk
November 28 2008
Joe Kinnear is now the official manager of Newcastle United until the end of the season. Kinnear who has handed a rolling contract after the Keegan saga will now take full control of the forthcoming transfer window and will be looking to splash some of owner Mike Ashley's cash in a bid to boost the squad and seek cover for the numerous injuries sustained over the season.
Despite Keegan's departure highlighting the problematic transfer policy the club are implementing, Kinnear is adamant that the players bought in, in January will be down to him and not controlled by a third party.

He said:

"Ever since I came to Newcastle United, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The players have been great to work with and the fans have made me feel at home since day one.

We have a big challenge ahead of us for the rest of the season, but together, I'm confident we will make good progress.

We have some very good players already at this club and hopefully we can further strengthen the squad in January, and I will be working very closely with the directors to try to achieve that."

Adding;

"At the moment, the plan is that I identify the players I want and then that will go back to the chairman, Derek Llambias, and then I assume he will give Dennis Wise the order to go and get them, that's how it works.

But they are strictly my players. I identify them, it goes to the board, they will back it, hopefully finances will be made available and then Dennis will be given the task to go and negotiate and get the job done.

I have spoken to the owner, I have explained to him where I think we need to strengthen up with the squad that we have got.

He is quite happy with that and if we can get the players I am looking for, he has promised me that he will back me up."

He also accepted that Michael Owen could potentially request a move at Christmas or walk in the summer. Despite several attempts at contract talks, nothing has been sorted out and transfer rumours will no doubt cause a media frenzy in the coming weeks;

"We have got to sit down with Michael now and actually find out how he feels about the situation," he added.

At the moment, he is being very receptive. I believe he likes it here, to be honest. That's my personal opinion, but until I actually hear it from Michael, I don't know.

But I sincerely hope I am in a position to keep him, for sure, because I wouldn't want to lose him."

Managing Director, Derek Llambias spoke on behalf of the club, commenting on Kinnear's extended contract;

"Joe has done an excellent job since coming to the club, and everyone is delighted he has agreed to remain in charge for the rest of the season."

jfk failed his one big test. That was being big enough to take off Owen. He didnt and that is a very worrying sign.

Re: Kinnear Stays & Talks Transfers
owen's gone now, the only thing that would've prevented that was new owners with big promises.

why on earth wouldn't he sign for a champs league club in january?

Kinnear is full of it. He doesn't have full control over transfers.

Annie,

One day of quantum of solace has given me more pleasure than the season so far watching the toon. That said, I will still be there freezing my town halls off on Saturday, hoping Kinnear has the bottle to send out and play an attacking game rather than slowly turning into Sam Allardyce.

Re: Kinnear Stays & Talks Transfers
I think the Owen situation could go either way. He will run his contract down and wait for someone to offer him more money. If no one comes in he will accept the "consolation prize" of resigning his contract with us, So i`d say we have a 50/50 chance of keeping him.

As for JK saying he has full control of transfers and negotiations. I think thats a load of crap. well get a few loan signings at best. Cant see Ashley spending more than the bear minimum to keep us in the league.

If the club does get relegated the value of the club will plummet. So hopefully this will encourage Ashley to give us a little cash in Jan, given our current situation.

I don't think Kinnear has ever said he's had full control of transfers and negotioations. He's only ever said which players he wishes to receive or to sustain not saying he gets the last word that is.

Re: Kinnear Stays & Talks Transfers
Assuming Man City go on the January spending spree they are planning, it would be worth a cheeky bid for Elano. He can't even get a start as it is, and has spoken openly about his discontent.

He was awesome last season, and would be worth the money for his free kicks alone. I'm not sure what his price tag would be though... maybe 8-10 mil?

Re: Kinnear Stays & Talks Transfers
Elano would be a good move; I'd be surprised if there aren't Spanish and Italian sides monitoring his situation, though. Could drive up the price and we know how much of a 'fiscal conservative' CAshley is.

Jaryd, I don't see how this:

Quote:
JK
"At the moment, the plan is that I identify the players I want and then that will go back to the chairman, Derek Llambias, and then I assume he will give Dennis Wise the order to go and get them, that's how it works."

can be interpreted as anything other than a claim of full control over transfer dealings. But I stopped listening to Kinnear a while ago when it comes to how this team is run from the front office.

i desperatly hope that he spends some good money this window, the last few mid-season windows have been a disaster for NUFC, so hopefully this one will suprise us all!
