No Silly Games & Shearers Your Man

Yesterday former Newcastle United player Rob Lee opened a whole new can of worms for his former team-mate and good friend Alan Shearer by announcing the Former Newcastle United Captain would be ready to accept the role of manager should he be offered it in the right circumstances.
The comment is significant in that it is the first clear indication that Shearer would be prepared to swap being a TV pundit for the reality of managing the club. It also hasn't gone unnoticed by the press that Lee's words come directly before Joe Kinnear's final game in charge under his current contract on Saturday at Chelsea.

Rob Lee told The Mag;

"I can honestly say, yes, Alan Shearer will manage Newcastle. Until now I would have just said that he would one day but I finally believe that he would tomorrow if the job is how he wants it, without all the silly games going on that have killed it."

Indicating Shearer could offer respite for owner Mike Ashley who has failed to sell the club, Lee added;

"The fans would love Alan to take over now. Mike Ashley would solve a lot of his problems by appointing Alan and accepting that mistakes have been made. Alan could be a priceless get out of jail card. Now is the time to make the club what we all want."

He also hinted he would like to be involved;

"Yes I would love to be part of it. It is time for Alan to take the job on. Roy Keane and Gareth Southgate learnt on the job and, like Keane at Sunderland, one thing Alan has is the respect of every single player at Newcastle.

I know for a fact that Michael Owen and any top player would play for him. We have not got European football at the moment but Alan Shearer will be a magnet for the top guys."

Despite this Shearer is yet to comment and fans have previously expressed concern at Shearer coming in with no real managerial experience.
