FA Investigate Crowd Trouble At Sunderland
By Tyne-Talk
October 26 2008
Joey Barton must have anticipated a certain level of abuse from the Sunderland fans ahead of yesterday's Tyne-Wear derby, but nothing could have prepared him for the torrid of missiles and verbal assault hurled at him whilst warming up on the touchline.
Despite goading the fans by kissing his United badge on his shirt to the Sunderland supporters, nothing makes their behaviour acceptable. In light of the mayhem which kicked off at the Stadium of Light, Barton was blameless as the place descended into chaos. The crowd trouble resulted in 29 arrests after the pitch was invaded and fireworks were set off at the end of the match.

After the match Joe Kinnear called for an FA investigation into the events which led to Barton being removed by the 4th official from the touchline where he was warming up with team-mate Jonas Gutierrez

He said:

"I don't know about it but it seems unfair if he wasn't able to warm up. Joey has been at the centre of everything this week - despite all the mass murders going on in this country.

He did well when he came on. I maybe should have brought my subs on earlier but my decisions weren't affected by any incident with Joey because I wasn't aware of it."

I didn't see it as I was watching the game, but it's up to the FA to look at it".

Unfortunately Keane's comments didn't seek to condemn the fans actions:

"I'm sure the FA will look into it. Football's an emotional game. We'll look at it over the next one or two days and find out if any of them are out of line.

But you've got to enjoy it. If you think I'm going to criticise this club's supporters you're wrong. The club's support has been fantastic in terms of getting behind us.

I'm not saying it's acceptable, but we've got security and police to look after that."

The FA has announced they will be investigating the crowd disturbance at yesterdays match.

Can't believe Keane effectively condoned their behaviour.

By not condemning it it kinda condones it

Throwing misiles and coins its discraceful like. I dont like what joey did, and i did boo him myself.... but by throwing objects is assault, therefore they are commiting similar crimes as joey. It was a shame to see that.

Agree with Carys, think Keane dropped a clanger when he said he was not going to criticise the fans. Think he should be fined aswell!

Lets fine barton as well if everyone else is getting fined. He did kiss the badge to antagonise the crowd. That is being investigated as well as rooney at everton!

Re: FA Investigate Crowd Trouble At Sunderland
keane said he wouldnt criticise the sunderland fans...presumably because of the reaction about a month ago when he last criticised them!

"The attitude of our players and fans was poor. I have no problem with people complaining but I got abuse from one or two fans and I will not tolerate that."

[news.bbc.co.uk]

i know what he was saying, 'why the @#$%& are you asking me about the crowd trouble, we have just won our cup final?', he just phrased it very badly, considering the quotes above...
roll on the home rematch

Re: FA Investigate Crowd Trouble At Sunderland
So Joey kissing a badge should be punished the same as thousands of Mackem unwashed pigs throwing coins and spiting at him. Get a grip Scotty you muppet

Re: FA Investigate Crowd Trouble At Sunderland
No, but if rooney is getting punished, barton should too. Barton made things worse by kissing the badge, it was winding up the crowd.

The people who threw the coins should be banned for life and also police action should be taken against them, i dont condone that at all.

But barton didnt help matters by kissing the badge.

Re: FA Investigate Crowd Trouble At Sunderland
it shouldnt be excused simply because barton is a sh-it-house, that leads to anarchy and mob rule. boo hiss.

trying really hard not to concentrate on the botha, cos it may look like sour grapes - we got the result we deserved.

BUT, if any makem clown thinks its ok to throw things at barton because of his past, please remind them, or inform them as many dont even know, that djibril cisse has admitted to the police both assaulting his then heavily pregnant wife, and assaulting a minor. he received a caution both times, and, as is the law in this country, by admitting these crimes and accepting a caution each time, he avoided court and a possible conviction. he is no better than barton, so spare us the moral lesson.

google the c u n t

Your right Scotty Diouf is the lowest of the low, also i recall in the dog w*nker's book he admitted to assaulting his wife, a woman in a bar and a 16 year old on a golf course. He also assaulted a fellow pro and ended his career, pure @#$%&

Neither player should be punished for kissing the badge,.

However if Rooney is... well that was a decision initially made by the officials on the day.

So, he shouldn't it's not a crime, but I did feel like hitting him there, wasn't too long ago he was kissing his blue shirt.

I hate how all the papers instantly blame Joey Barton for all the worlds problems.
