Shearer told the BBC's Football Focus:
"I would like to be a manager at some stage, but that means controlling the players who go in and the players who go out.
I don't think I would be comfortable working within a structure with a director of football who was picking and choosing the players for me."
After backing Keegan and empathising with why he left the club he went on to discuss the fans and their feelings as well as suggesting that he would be against a boycott of matches due to the pressure and affect it could have on the players.
"I know the fans are very unhappy at the moment. They have voiced their opinions and they are more than entitled to do that because without the fans there is no Newcastle United.
They are angry, hurt, and disappointed and everyone feels for them, me included because we all want the same thing - success at Newcastle United.
It is going to be a big task for them because the fans are very angry.
There are going to be a million names thrown around and they are going to have to make a decision quickly.
I do not know whether staying away would be the best thing, as that will affect the players.
I cannot see how they could be in the best frame of mind playing in front of an empty stadium."
Whilst many reports suggest that recruiting Shearer would calm down the fans, they know that he would not offer himself to Mike Ashley and his board to be dictated to and to run the business, not the football club.
He then reiterated his point to The Sun in their back page exclusive today:
"I do want to be a manager but I believe a manager has to be allowed to manage and it looks like Kevin Keegan was not.
When you are a manager you live or die by your decisions and if a manager is not allowed to make those decisions you cannot manage a football club.
You cannot work as a manager properly if someone else is deciding which players you buy and which you sell.
I totally understand why Kevin has walked out and why Alan Curbishley has done the same thing this week at West Ham."
