Pocognoli Fee Agreed?

Today's Chronicle suggests that Kevin Keegan is set to launch a £6million bid for AZ Alkmaar's defender, Sebastien Pocognoli, despite him being under contract until 2012. Whilst reports from Belgium suggest that a fee has already been agreed between the two clubs, but there has been no official confirmation of this.

Pocognoli, is currently on his return journey from the Olympics where he represented his national side Belgium all the way through to the semi finals before crashing out to Nigeria.

The 21 year old expressed his desire to play in England or Spain earlier this week when he gave the following statement:

"The decision [about my future] lies with AZ, but a chance to play in England or Spain would be sensational for me."

However, Newcastle United are not the only team interested in him and will have to fend off interest from Lyon who were said to be leading the chase just three days ago and Real Betis who are also keeping an eye on the situation.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been heavily linked with Pocognoli with AZ Alkmaar said to be interested in replacing him with Korean Lee Young-Pyo should he leave.

Meh, Tottenham will probably nip in with a last minute bid and poach him.
