Everton Look To Smith?
By Tyne-Talk August 5 2008
Newcastle United's Alan Smith has been linked once again with a move to Everton. The Toffees have previously been linked to the striker before, in the 2007 summer transfer window prior to him signing for Newcastle. Smith who has struggled to make an impact at St James' Park could now be on his way out, with Everton manager David Moyes keen to give him another opportunity.

Smith signed for Newcastle on 2nd August 2007 in a 5 year deal costing approximately £6million (though officially the fee was undisclosed), he has since made 37 appearances for the club.

Thats the highest figure, others look like £1.5.

Think original source was Daily Express? So bear that in mind.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
I'm surprised anyone's interested.

With the squad as thin as it is, he really actually probably shouldn't be sold. Funny, that.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
ok he's been @#$%& for us, who can deny that? but i like him and i think he deserves to be backed to the hilt.

all it would take is a couple of goals in as many weeks and he'd begin to pick himself up off the ground and do somethin for this club.

where are these goals comin from? @#$%& knows, but they'll come, sometime, and it'll be sooner with a bit of support.

he's had one nightmare season, let's give him the chance to put it behind him and re-emerge as the player he still could be again.(Sm113)

He shouldn't be selected on the form he's shown. I won't complain if we don't jump at every bid, but if someone comes in with £2M+, after we've strengthened the squad, we should take it.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
Smith was a nice idea at the time...he is tough and committed but it just hasn't happened for him at SJP for whatever reason you know......

say thanks and send him of to everton releasing 45,000 in wages and a couple of million for a new player.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
Wages really are out of hand at this club. I agree with Ashley about that.

Yep, that's certainly one thing that Ashley does understand, though I don't think it'll be sorted out anytime soon no matter how hard he tries.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
Trip down to the championship would solve it. I do believe that this is in the back of Ashley's mind, at least.

Championship would NOT be easy to get out of... we do not want to go that route.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
Seems to be many conflicting reports on Smith's status right now, some stories about Ashley saying they have to sell him, not liking that if it's true, just to get his wages off the books when we need players in not out.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
I do believe that's just paper talk, Nathan. "Ashley looks to trim wage bill" has been blared in every sports media outlet. It's deductive reasoning working backwards from the premise:

"There is some reason for the lack of transfers by NUFC other than their inability to find a player they want and agree a fee."

The basis for this premise? Pure speculation.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
Ash will spend if w find the right player for the right amount. I am sure.

But Smith is nothing more than dead weight. He has has his season in the sun '60k' worth of fake tan. and like every other mercenery its time to move him on.

Shola wont be on 3/4 of what smith gets.

Ash will not consider going down ... do you have any idea of the financial implications of the Toon out the Prem. It would be the last thing he wants.. i'm surer he'd rather let FFS marry his daughter then Go down.

Re: Everton Look To Smith?
Well even a lower-table finish would drive away some of the big-wage wasters currently in the squad.
