By Tyne-Talk

Joey Barton will definitely remain a Newcastle United player after the club confirmed they will not be making moves to sell the midfielder. Earlier this week manager Kevin Keegan publicly declared he would back the 25 year old on his release from prison where he was serving 6 months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Barton was released yesterday just hours after Keegan's announcement, 74 days into his sentence, serving less than half.Barton and his agents met up this morning to holds talks about his situation, shortly afterwards a statement on the official club website was confirmed he will remain at the club.

It read:

"Newcastle United officials can confirm that they have met with Joey Barton today. Following which it has been agreed by everyone involved that Joey will remain with the club.

The club will not be making any further comment on the matter."

There had previously been speculation that Newcastle were hoping to cut Barton's £65,000 a week wages. This no longer appears to be the case.

Barton's £65,000 a week wages.

"Celebrity justice" strikes again.

I wonder if I got banged up, if my employer would take me back on my £320 a week (after tax) wages?
