Guthrie Set For Medical
By Tyne-Talk July 11 2008
Liverpool's Danny Guthrie looks all set to join Newcastle after a fee was agreed between the two clubs. An official statement has been released by the head of Liverpool FC press, Ian Cotton who said: "We have agreed a transfer fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Danny Guthrie. We have now given Newcastle permission to speak directly with the player."
The 21 year old midfielder who spent last season at Bolton Wanderers on loan, and played 12 games for Southampton at the end of the 2006/2007 campaign, has made 7 appearances for Liverpool, making his competitive debut against Reading in 2006 and 35 appearances for Bolton.

Guthrie is yet another young player to join Keegan's young squad. He was initially offered as part exchange for fellow midfielder James Milner an offer which was declined by United.

He will now undergo a medical for the club as confirmed by NUFC.co.uk.

if its more than half a mil i'll be disappointed. i'm ready to give him a chance, but this is a kid who is surplus to requirements at liverpool, having never made the grade with them. our squad isnt as strong as theres is, so maybe he'll find the room to grow into a premier league player, but for now we are buying a reserve level player

Not excited.
At least we're making some signings though.
Better than nothing...

I'm impressed not excited if a multi million pound investment in a has been who wants to settle his career at SJP excites you then you wouldn't be excited at a hungry young midfielder who wants to prove his worth but I look forward to seeing him progress at the Toon.

All I can say is this: the lad plays for the toon now; I'll support him.

But I don't want to read you all ragging on Milner or Taylor.

Here's a guy who wasn't a regular starter at Bolton and was rejected by top sides. Oh, and he's only a year younger than the two mentioned above so I don't want to see him given more slack than them because of potential, either.
