Edgar Fighting Fit After Hernia Op
By Tyne-Talk July 9 2008
Newcastle United's young defender David Edgar has successfully under gone a hernia operation during the close season and returned to full training on Monday. The Canadian Under 20's captain signed for Newcastle on 1st July 2003 and made his home debut for Newcastle on 1st January 2007 against Manchester United, receiving a heroes welcome as he netted the equalising goal.

He said:

"I'm looking forward to the pre-season programme.

I should be back to full fitness soon after my hernia op.

It's good to be back, and after last season you want to be involved in the first team, week-in, week-out.

The gaffer gave me my chance last season and it's great to be around him.

I have been on the bench for them for the last two seasons.

But I feel that I have what it takes and will have to take my chance."

He should be loaned out for experience. He showed great potential last year but is very green and his physical game needs some seasoning.

Agreed. With some championship type experinece or even experience to one of the new teams up. It would totally benefit his game. Though we would need to try and get someone in before we do that I would think, especially in looking at our recent few years with injury.

True as well. I would still like to see Anton Ferdinand here honestly to form that young partnership with Taylor at the back to be the foundation of the youth recently acquired by the club. Slowly we are seeing the likes of Carroll, Lua Lua and Edgar being brought in the team. I think it would be a good move.

We need an experienced, positionally sound CB to pair with Taylor, who still needs to develop himself. Anton Ferdinand is not the man for that role.

Fantastic news as Edgar fits the exact profile of what Newcastle United are now doing. His age and ability means that he will grow with all the other talented youngins we now have.
